Upgrade graphics card to GTX 750 Ti?

Hi there

I just saw a review of this card on PC Gamer, which made specific mention of it being rather quiet, which got me thinking.

My rig is about 3 years old, but it doesn't seem to struggle with any games really. There are maybe one or two starting to creep in which mean I have to turn down the odd quality setting. But, one thing that has always irked me a little about it is the loudness of the graphics card.

I wonder therefore whether I could, given the age of my system, get myself a reasonable upgrade for relatively little money, and make it quieter at the same time?

Can anyone advise? Current system is:

Intel i5 2500k
8GB DDR3 1600MHzRAM
Currently with a GTX 570 1280MB card

It's in a coolermaster cosmos case, and with a silent PSU, so the graphics card really is the only thing that stops it being very quiet (it's in the lounge.)

So, is that card going to make much difference? Future proof my computer for another year or so? Or is the rest of the kit more of a limiting factor, and therefore it's a waste of time?

Thanks in advance.

The rest if the kit is mostly fine but I'd be surprised if a 750Ti offers much, if any, extra peformance over a 570. It would certainly use a lot less power, but that's about it.

Fair enough. Is there an option that would be a worthwhile upgrade for a similar or slightly higher price?

How come the 570 has stayed so competitive when it's 3 years old?

Nvidia compares 750ti performance against couple gen old high end - 480 and your 570 is basically just rebranded 480 (more power efficient revision). So there won't be any sharp performance differences; on the power side though - saving are 3-4 fold. So is impact on heat, acoustics, power supply requirements, case size ect.

Thanks very much!

I don't reckon I'd replace it just for the noise (after all, I haven't for the past 3 years!) I want my cake and to eat it!

If there was something reasonably priced, quicker and quieter, then I'd be sorely tempted.

Gtx x60 are mid level. The x70 are mid high closer to the high end and the x80 is the high end.

anything like an x50 is a much cut down low price at the high end of the low end category. Anything below this is basically terrible for any kind of gaming.

The GTX660,R7 265 and R9 270 consistently out-perform the GTX750TI in most games.

The GTX660 and R9 270 are already around £130 and the R7 265 will be under that.

How can you say it's a rebranded 480 - it's a completely different architecture in fact 2 generations later! Rebranding to me at least means same components but different any one or more of label/model name/GPU casing design/packaging it comes in possibly!

The 750ti is a much newer architecture but a low end part that today offers the same performance as a top of the range 480 did a few years ago.

I think he means the 570 is a rebranded 480.

His Gtx 570 is just rehashed 480 (in a sense same reshuffle as 680 to 770) and for this specific launch - NVIDIA claim their new GTX 750 Ti will frequently match the GTX 480. What's not to get?

Why would you buy a 750TI when you can get a MUCH faster card in a 270 for the same price?

MSI R270 (will reach 270X speeds without a problem) - £135

performance difference? dramatic. you should only buy a 750ti over a r 270 unless you enjoy lower fps.
