My gran has asked my to put a longer wire on her tumble dryer and I want some advice as to what the correct wire is to buy. The dryer is currently in the bathroom and she is running it through an extension lead to reach into the kitchen. The plug going into the extension is getting hot and is showing signs of scorching, so she has asked me to replace the wire with a longer one (about 10-12ft).

I don't have the model of the dryer but it's nothing special, maybe a hoover one that's about the same size as a washing machine. I just want to make sure I get a cable that's going to be safe so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Her tumble dryer is in the bathroom run with an extension lead ??

Won't be the first or last person to do that, seen it many times over the years.

Seen trailing sockets fixed to bathroom wall, so person could use hairdryer, radio, etc, while & after a bath.

I'd go belt and braces myself. 2.5mm 3 core over that distance too those tumble driers are pretty power juicy. Also stick a decent MK branded plug at the end of it...

That reminds me of a small job I went to donkeys years ago, it was to remove a radiant heater from a bathroom.
As I was running late I just took all the 30A wired fuses out of the box, Took the cover of the radiant box then inserted my screwdriver into the live terminal to undo the screw, there was a big flash, my screwdriver welded itself to the terminal, when my eyes had cleared I went into the loft to trace the wires, only to find that the heater had been wired direct onto the immersion heater feed which was on a 20A fuse, after that I never again did a shortcut and always tested the circuit before I did any work.

To be fair, the extension is in the kitchen which is next to the bathroom. The cable is not long enough to plug into a kitchen socket which is why she want's a longer one.

I had to change out all sockets at mates rental - turned off breaker for upstairs and started in back room - got to front bedroom and got a belt - first ever in my life - seems sparky had wired front up and down and rear up and down - like you I now test everything.

As above with the extension plug, but i'd say put an RCD adapter on it too, dead grans don't buy nice birthday pressies :)
