Headphones vs 5.1 cinema speakers for gaming?

Stereo Headset > 5.1 Headset everytime.

Also the only thing I'd use a 5.1 speaker system for, is movies.

pretty much all I use my 5.1 speakers for now with the tv/ps3 (well.... my actual creative 5.1 speakers have been in a box since i got a headset :p )

Pls, true bass > talking sense xD

buttery biscuit bass >true bass>logic

I use both, headset and a Yamaha A-S700 paired with AE NEO V3 floorstanders. I used to have a subwoofer too but find I don't need one with the variable loudness on the amp (it will reduce the high frequencies whilst keeping the low down frequencies the same).

BF3 with the headset sounds amazing but I don't find headsets comfortable AT ALL.

I hooked up a hi-fi to my first PC and added surround sound to my second. Ultimately it seemed to be more trouble than it was worth, so these days I'm headphones only. I've been tempted by "real" 5.1 set-ups but I am a bit of an audiophile/musician and so have stuck with good quality stero headphones rather than gaming varieties, many of which seem to have quite a reputation for breaking.

refusing to listen to sense, typical internet fanboy.

Much True Bass
Such Real 5.1

Yeah, I have an Asus soundcard. Why would you want to hear the centre speaker over everything else? Did you know that with the use of my fingers I can unplug one side of my headset and just listen to one side...nope, that made no more sense than your statement either

With a true 5.1 headset you are free to edit the sound range how you like it.
If all you wanted to hear over all other speakers is the back for example you can do so by lowering all other channels and higher the rear.

If you wanted to hear talking from teamspeak better you can higher center channel again above all other channels.

If you wanted higher bass levels or lower again you ate free to do so.

True 5.1 hives you the flexibility to setup you audio how you like it. Each individual speaker is there for you to fine tune.

Just because you think 2.0 is better doesn't mean that is 100% hard fact.

What I mean by true bass is the vibration Cup inside the headset linked to the bass unit.

What does bass do from a sub woofer? It vibrates correct?
The same thing inside the kave it has a tiny vibration unit abit link the rumble on the ps3 pad. So when you shoot a gun it vibrates each time you shoot and gives a nice touch to the games.

What do you prefer for single player games? For games like cod etc, yes headphones will be better for hearing footsteps etc.

I am wondering what is best for Survival horror type games

I all ready own £2000 AV setup, considering moving to headphones for gaming

Why would you want to move to headsets unless your home cinema is disturbing the neighbours or family....or if you play during late night.

I try not put vibrator's in my ear's too often. You never know where they have been, but can guess.

Theres a few single player games I'll, use 5.1 speakers for but its a minority - nothing gives the intimacy compared to a decent set of stereo headphones especially for multiplayer FPS games.

The cone vibrates, but it is not really the movement of the subwoofer that creates the bass, it is the air moving in the enclosure it is in. This is why infinite baffle subwoofers are quiet (they use the room/car they are in as an enclosure), and why ported (aka tuned) subwoofer boxes are louder than sealed ones however with less dynamic range due to being tuned to a certain noise spectrum (hz).

I can get a 6" subwoofer to create the same amount of bass as an 18" subwoofer... I just need a 25 foot long box to do so (transmission line).

Headphones don't have enclosures so they will never work properly as a subwoofer.
