Hi all.

I have had my new gigabyte Windforce Gtx 780 and I love it . except for the noise constant ticking noise coming from one of the fans on the card. I thought with a bit of wearing in this would sort its self out but it seem to be getting more and my more noticeable. I have 5 days left on my ocuk 14 guarantee and wondering if I should ask for this to be replaced, in not out to rip ocuk off just want a card that is problem free. So do I have grounds for a return here, I think it is just one fan with bad ballbearing or mechanism.

Thanks as always

P

If it's got a faulty fan get it RMA'd

If the bearing in the fan is faulty it's going to cause the fan to fail at some point & possibly cause the card to overheat (worst case scenario)

Three threads? Am I missing something.

You accidentally triple posted. Was a small jape, wouldn't worry about it.

You could exchange it for another card, like the awesome pre-order on the tri-x 290 if it is still within the guarantee but i personally would probably just replace it with another 780 if you love how it performs outside the annoying sound.

I had the same issue with one of my WF 7970s, clicking fan at certain speeds.

Sent it back via Hermes after an RMA request confirmation, it took Gigabyte 2 days to fix the fan once they received it, then I e-mailed a label to them for pick up, excellent turnaround which took about a week in total.

Gigabyte RMA is second to none :)

Ah sorry was a post from my phone. It was taking a while for it to show up so pressed a few times. : /

I got the same problem on Gigabyte 780 TI Windforce 1 day old. The fans are cheap junk, you'd think they would change the fans another brand?
Sending it back and getting EVGA.

i get it around 37 - 40 degrees quite idle temps and it happens intermitently, and as the fan speeds are not that fast at that temp is quite noticible
i still haven't managed to get this card over 50 degrees while gaming, admittaly im not playing a game that pushes it but i can imagen it would get worse with more speed.

can't fault the hardware, i can the fans.

with my first one I found the fan would catch on the housing at lower speeds causing an annoying grating sound.

Get a video of the sound In action and upload it to YouTube and the RMA people can tell you more

Personally I would return it for a refund and purchase another, it can only degrade further.

A tiny amount of Lithium grease can stop the grating, but you could possibly void the warranty.

well i have sent a RMA request to OCUK first thing this morning before i went to work , but so far have had no reply :(. hopfully i'll get one tomorrow.

Still no reply from OCUK, been over 24 hours now, how long should i leave it before i give them a call? i have recieved a "we have your message" automated message reply but thats it. thought i would have had some human response by now at least.
