7970 vs R9 290?

I have one of those HIS 7970's and the cooler is very good (only tested for a day or so before I put a block on it).
I'd rather have one of these for that money though http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-343-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1842 or save a few quid and go for the MSI above.

You probably won't see a huge difference over your last card tbh.

If you can stretch to it, I'd pre-order one of these over both of those http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-348-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752

Unless you can find a real cheap 7970, then get a 280x - if you can I'd go for a 290, big jump over 280x.

When it comes to sell on time, say 2 years, i'd rather be selling a 280x than much 'older tech' like the 7970.

7970 isn't much of a boost over your 7950, the 290 Tri-X costing you about £100 upgrade, that doesn't happen very often.

Better driver support/features, never mind the performance hike.;)

Just grab a 770 if you game at 1080P. Faster than the 280X out the box in most games and no need to add money to it. Price per performance, the 770 is king :)

If you game at a higher res, the 290/780 is a good option.
