I have bought quite a lot of my PC parts second hand but when all those 280x/290's hit MM/ebay they would have to be exceptionally cheap to temp me.
Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole tbph, core degradation is going to be an issue as they are getting tanked 24/7.
A friend cashed in and sold his 7950 on fleabay, got positive feedback with the new owner happy.
6 weeks later he got a mail saying it was faulty and fleabay/paypal took the payment back out his bank.
He didn't get his cash back until the dispute was settled after carefully worded emails explaining mining/overclocking/poor handling.

ASIC's for Scrypt mining are starting to ship, which means the difficulty level for most of the alt coins is about to start climbing significantly, so from here on out is just depends how quickly they can ship ASIC's
great news for people wanting cheap 2nd hand radeon cards
I can see retailers and Manufacturers getting fed up with mining in truth. I can see a lot of people who will mine 24/7 with the cards going full pelt and failing, with people abusing the warranty (that is what it is there for).
Manus will find a way to build clockometers in to cards, and warranty will then be based on clock cycles or time, like the 3 year or 10k mile warranty you can get with a car.
But not so great for those that want them to last. Mining 24/7 will take its toll on the GPU and I certainly wouldn't like to take that gamble. I can see a few people getting well and truly caught out.
Rubbish, Cards are designed to run for 100,000 hours, maybe mining for a year might reduce the life of a card from 10 years to 8 years. I would trust a card that has been mining solidly over most second hand cards. A mining card will have to be run in a stable and constant environment. Downtime costs money.
Buying a mining cards poses no more risk than buying any second hand card.
You crack on then Mel but knowing what I know, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

We've seen a lot of burnt out cards which we've also seen from gaming crossfire machines too. The returns are reducing as more and more people are getting smarter and being educated, to ensure the cards have airflow and to setup fan profiles, lower voltages etc. etc.
You answered for me Gibbo. People return cards that are mining, you even stated in a thread "Do not buy these cards if you intend on mining, as they keep failing", so why would I have confiden e in buying a second hand mining card.
By all means, people who want to save money and gamble on a card that has been mining, go for it.
