Banished - upcoming city-building strategy

is this worth buying yet? I read on the steam page some people have had some issues with getting it to run. Should I wait for a few patches first?

So, umm, my cleric seems happy.....

Lol

My villagers are dying of old age. The problem I had early on with my villagers not having children is now becoming an issue. I rectified the problem too late. I might be able to get through it if I cut back a bit and just focus on the essentials.

I'm in a very similar situation. I thought I was doing pretty well but they seemed to adopt a one couple one child poilicy for a while and now my ageing population is dying off. Those that are still up to the job have managed to produce some kids, so I'm gonna hang in there and try to focus on the essentials like you, hopefully I can build it back up.

Well been playing a little while now and there is a bug?

I had a population of 50 then within 2 years about 5 people died and 10 where born!!!!

WTF all dieing of starvation now, when I had 2k surplus each year before!

As people die the house becomes free and they at it like rabbits, age
or sex no concern! Metrosexual is the modern term I think! :D

I had 2 females produce a baby? Just how?

Affiars maybe but this soon as a house becomes available its rampant bunny time! :D

I demand a condom store ASAP! :p

Got to year 50 and gave up. Population stayed even at around 160ish and the only disaster I got was an orchard infestation which wasn't an issue at all. I was actually wanting a disaster to see if I had enough resources stored to survive. Finished with 44,000 food and 2000 wood, everything was broadly spread out in multiple store rooms.

Might try hard mode next time.

hard mode is easy, change the weather temperament or whatever the option is called to a more severe climate if you want a hard game

I am tempted to get this. Not sure if it is worth £12 though.

What game would you guys say it is most like?

Definitely worth the £12! I have spent £30-40 on AAA titles that are much more buggy than this (cough Sim City.. cough BF4)

Haven't encountered any issues with the game so far.

I've been meaning to ask if anyone has tried on Hardmode? It looked like it just affects what resources etc you start with, but not actually how the game plays?

Everytime I think I'm doing well Winter roles around and lets me know I'm not.

Like the CIV series hours seem to disappear playing this o.O

Dam was going all ok until year 14, I had a bad winter and suddenly I ran out of food and the stockpiles ran low on wood. Several deaths :( Before Id always had a huge surplus of food.

just seems to be a harder start but it's still easy if you have at least played normal mode enough to know what resources to prioritise at the start.

I've got 21 villagers, 25 sheep and 66 chickens :D

with hardmode start on probably well under year 10

actually I lie, it's year 15 and I have cows too

Nice! Have you encountered any nomads (or diseases brought with them)?

I keep restarting the game as I learn more (to avoid certain mistakes) so I never really get too far :p

Oh and a ship finally turned up with livestock on it so I could get my pastures up and running, but then I found out each cattle was 800....I didn't have enough money LOL. Might be a restart tonight.

I found out that while a tornado touching down outside town looks very pretty, it makes short work of wooden houses/food stores/people/breweries (:()/fishing piers and any chance of a thriving settlement.

Silver lining is that it's great for getting the 400 tombstone in one graveyard achievement :D

I am enjoying this game not very good at it though, I built 4 extra houses and next thing I know I had a population explosion and I did not have enough crops planted to cope with it all. Next thing I know I had to build a cemetery to hold the nearly 40 that died. My son was on my knee and he is asking if the zombies come at knight or do they get attacked by wolves:) He got bored after 10 mins.

I can never seem to afford to buy anything from the traders. Seeds are super expensive, livestock, not as bad but still not cheap. What are people trading for it?

Hide coats seem to have the most value for me but I never have enough, even with 2 different hunter cabins at full capacity, I just never have enough leather.

Also - I assume I will need to buy at least 2 livestock if I want them to breed right?

Has anyone 'used up' all of the animals in their local vicinity from hunting? So far I haven't used a single hunter's cabin as I am trying to last as long as possible, so go for the most sustainable options (obviously except for stone/iron)

I always seem to be running out of wood for the fires. I have two wood cutter lodges and a foresters hut with 4 folk in for a population of 37 adults and 12 children. I take it I need more but is how much more.

I assume you need two as well.

As far as what to trade so far I have been trading tools and hide coats.
