How long before we start seeing strong Northern or foreign accented presenters on the news?

Yes, this is worrying. People think I speak "posh". It's just a normal English accent.

u fink ur so hy nd mitey wiv ur 'propa' engish m8! ! ! !

if u tlk lik dat ppl wil thnk ur stuk up m8 ! ! ! ! !

Contrary to the above, I actually speak the Queen's English.

If you want to see how things have changed in the past 15-20yrars look up early Top Gear episodes (old version) when Jeremy first started.

Yes indeed. If you listen to news broadcasts from the 50s/60s there's a marked difference to now.

At least on Radio 3/4 they still speak well. There's more of a need for clear speaking on radio than in television.

Have you heard any radio 1?! Last time I heard it the language was terrible. Not swearing, obviously, but the fact that they can't grasp the English language! Does my head in. People listen to you, surely you should speak correctly?

Radio 1 is a waste of space though. There's no need for it at all - there's commercial channels everywhere that satisfy its market. (retards)

can pay them less too ! :D

The great news reporters strike of 2014, off down t' pits lad. ;)

Agree on Radio 1, it's crap, they love the sound of their own voices and think they're hilarious "Oh look at we did in the office today, aren't we funny" no, you're not, now play some music you ******s. And then they end up playing the same charts garbage 20 times in a day, you get to the evening and it's just some south london wannabe gangster "Here's gslicehomeslizzle with cut your mums nerps off" and it's just some garbage "oooba dooba dooba club innit" type crap.

Given the choice I'd have gold, xfm or planet rock on. But in the absence of a DAB radio/ mp3 player/ cd whatever. I find radio 2 or Jack FM vastly superior.

Was about to +1 this but then I read the above

Is that an example 'proper' English lol!? Although (to my shame) I read it in my head as "doz my 'ed in" :o

As a few others have said, if you had a presenter with a very strong regional accent some people may not understand what they are saying. The much more neutral southern tone is better as most people can understand that.

Also will people stop moaning about "proper English" the language is constantly evolving and changing, there is not much you can do. Every older generation moans about how the new generation talks.
