Just a note about EVGA vs other brands

I purchased a Gigabyte 780 Ti windforce from amazon that I had to return the other day because of poor fan quality.

I decided to plum for the EVGA 780 Ti Superclock. There have been many times in the past I have almost purchased a EVGA card but there were stock issues rushing to get the latest newest card or I felt the slight premium wasn't worth it.

Well I can say it is. They gigabyte box is lack luster, it has no seals on it, the card is not packed well, and then you are left with the card itself which in this case I do not think Gigabyte are using good enough fans.

I can really say that although I had to spend another 50 quid on the card, you really are getting some piece of mind that the card (and I am not saying it was) has not just been tossed back and you could get someone else return.

Hence I am please with EVGA's packing and seals, I have never purchased any card this well presented, even my old Asus GTX 690 just came in an open box with marks on it that has been worn in shipping.

So here's my two thumbs up to EVGA, now I presume the fans will be better quality with its double ball bearings instead of sleeves.

I mostly used Asus or EVGA and since cards went Exhaust Blower style I have never had a Non Ref if non Exhaust Style (EVGA had some Non Ref Exhausts Blowers before) and do not like/want them or the air blowing all over my case even though its a NZXT 630 so good airflow.

For the size of the fan and footprint an Exhaust Blower is very efficient.

I got the same EVGA 780Ti SC yesterday and its great so far.

I posted about it in the 7800Ti thread just bellow this.

See i think so differently to you, i have had EVGA, GigaByte, Asus, MSI, Palit, and my reason for buying the brand at the time was the price, Palit Jetstreams make some of the fastest cards for the money, followed my MSI, GigaByte are somewhere in between, Asus are over priced imo as the quality control is a big let down, as i have had trouble with the last two cards from them outta the box, so this would stick in my mind but if the price was a deal breaker id still take one, and although EVGA are also overpriced, they do have one of the best customer support, and love the fact that the warranty is on the card not the person, and the step up program is also worth noting, but the packaging seal or unsealed does not bother me, if i get someones DSR RMA then im ok with that, depend on who is selling it to me, so as far as OcUK goes, i can buy with confidence know any problems will get sorted/replaced/refunded, the fans on the EVGA AXC coolers may last ten years or what ever it is, but i dont keep a card 6 month tbh so that is not a deal breaker for me, what sells me a brand and in this order, price, rma support, and quality, all i want is a card that works outta the box, can keep you fancy packaging and poster and stickers, just good padded box no frills and a quality product fit for purpose, from a reliable seller so if it goes bad, it gets sorted, and sorted quickly ;)

All that said i should point out that i just sold my 780ti and bought a R290 made by powercolor, and im taking a step in to the unknown, but the price i paid was a deal breaker plus got 3 games in BF4 and THIEF, and some Dexus EX i think it was :)

Happy so far with it, but watch this space ;)

EVGA had some of the fastest cards in the past with either SSC or FTW (depending on series) and that was Exhausts Blowers.

Palit are not the best vendor to deal with, EVGA have best support.

BTW I cannot read past the top few lines as that wall of text is sore man, are you on a phone?

For someone like me, it makes so much sense to buy EVGA, as I don't tend to stay with one generation and sell on when the next is upon us and with EVGA giving the remainder of the warranty to whoever owns the card, it just makes sense.

If you keep your GPU for years, EVGA even offer longer warranties for peanuts.

Greg, Did you get my MSG the other day? ;)

EVGA did not used to allow transferring warranty and it was free to get a lifetime warranty if you registered the new GPU in a timely manner (think it was 30days) else you got normal length warranty (think it was 2-3years).

That all changed though.

Also some peeps cry as its not really lifetime but 10years, well that is down to EU law, in USA it is life.

Agreed ^^^

My way of thinking.

I did and I did reply bud (I think).

A lot of that is likely a reflection on the retailer (i.e. if you got someone else's return) rather than gigabyte - other than the fans though I've never had any issues with the fans on any of my gigabyte cards.

The EVGA stuff I've bought has been generally well presented but the gigabyte stuff has been adequate, it is a nice touch when a little more care is taken with the packaging though.

Got it Gregg thanks.

Seems to be a lot of Non Ref cards acting up on 780 series, Gigabyte and other the day a thread about a Palit Jetstream.

EVGA ACX also though some are not the actual fans but loose fins vibrating due to the fans (fix is on their forums), some peeps thought they had fan issues or coil whine but it can be that instead.

I had a Gigabyte WF 560Ti that was pretty damned good. Volts were a little low and I needed to up those (done it via BIOS in the end) but toher than that, it was a good solid card. I gace it to my daughters x-boyfriend in the end but it is still going strong.

EVGA just stands out for me for warranty/turnaround and quality. Not happy about Besty getting his KPE cards but that is more to do with OcUK rather than EVGA.

I'd agree, very impressed with my EVGA 780s - the quality packaging was a nice touch as well and reassures me that all EVGA products I purchase in the future will likely have adequately protecting packaging.

Check their site and make sure its set to EU/UK as if you ask here you will get a mix of answers and most wrong.

I could have told you the older warranty of top of my head but not since changes.

This is a bit off topic but it's not really worth a new thread and it's somewhat related with people talking about exhaust blowers..

Has anyone tried the KFA2 "Own Design" GTX 780ti? It looks like a custom exhaust blower type, I've been trying to find out about it but it seems to be quite a rare card, haven't been able to find any reviews at all.

The reason I'm interested is because I need a blower/exhaust type for my build to allow the possibility of SLI (tiny micro ATX case, only four expansion slots so they'll be pretty tight), and I have a black theme which the KFA2 "Own Design" would fit nicely. The design on the front of the card would be hidden luckily so it'd just be the top of that nice black cooler on display.

Has anyone used one of these? From the pics, it looks like they have a few air vents at the PCIe end of the card but just a few and they're very small, will it be likely to dump much hot air back into the case or will it exhaust the majority like the reference cooler? And what are the noise levels and temps like compared to the reference?

Make sure its still a vapour chamber not heatpipes for better cooling.

Example : 680's were heatpipes but the EVGA FTW's were Vaporchamber (AFAIR) so it can vary if a non ref.

Edit: It is not even on their site, only Nvidia ref style.

Thanks, that's the exact kind of advice I need but I don't know how I can find that out.. There isn't anything on the KFA2 website for this "Own Design" version and the OcUK page just has generic GTX 780ti information!

I found the manufacturer's code for the card earlier (78INH5DV9IXU), found out that Galaxy is basically the American version of KFA2 and they made the same card with a slightly different design on the front but there's no trace of it on their website either, no reviews and barely anywhere is selling it as far as I know, unless they gave it a different name than "Own Design".

The lack of information about it doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence really, but the black would fit so well... :(
