Rooney agrees new deal.

Makes sense for Man Utd to keep him, although I thought that he might be wanting a new challenge especially with Man Utd going backwards at the moment. But then, I imagine it is quite hard to say no to £300,000 a week.

Surprises me more that hes signed a new contract, would have thought he wanted another challenge ie abroad.

OMGZ 300K A WEEK OMGZ is what the response will be.

Yet it's ok for Liverpool to throw 200 at Suarez to keep him, Arsenal to pay Ozil over the odds, Chelsea to give Terry, Lampard, Cole and co the world.

He's our best player, he'll be captain and it's integral to keep him in times like this.

I imagine he has been given some level of assurances over transfers in the summer too.

Suarez is currently the better player and yet some how Rooney is getting at least %50 more than him? I think that is why people are saying he is getting too much. He is getting paid around the same as Messi & Ronaldo maybe more and is is definitely nowhere near them at the moment.

Mad amounts of money, but they cannot attract better at the moment so he has them over a barrel.

They would struggle even more to attract the right calibre of player without him. He knows that (or will have been told that by his 'people').

He will be getting a loyalty bonus in that figure. Much like in any business, the longer you work there and the more you achieve the more you earn. He has been our best player since Ronaldo left quite easily.

Some will argue RVP was our best player last season, but RVP himself will tell you he couldn't have done it without Rooney.

Not forgetting he is probably the best utility player in the world at the moment, can play and play well in 3 or 4 positions.

I'm not sure that Ronaldo agrees with the last statement.

One would assume its just assurances about transfers, but assurances about our next manager as well.

There is no way anyone would sign if they thought Moyes was going to be there next season.

So then be happy that Man Utd are paying over the odds, he was on 200+ anyway so he has to be paid more if he is going to sign a new contract.

Suarez was given the extra to keep him at the club and to offset the fact that if he does leave it will take a decent amount to get him, how is that any different to Rooney?

Fact of the matter is, if United didn't pay it him, you get bet your left ball that Chelsea/City/Real Madrid/Barcelona would.

Yup.

utd needed to do this to help sign big names in the summer since they are already losing a few players 50k extra a week is already covered

Delighted.

He's a player we can't really replace. Also a good statement of intent for the summer which will be massive for us.
