Banished - upcoming city-building strategy

I always seem to be running out of wood for the fires. I have two wood cutter lodges and a foresters hut with 4 folk in for a population of 37 adults and 12 children. I take it I need more but is how much more.

I have two, which I find fine for just the usual yearly amount of wood needed ect. However if I am on a building mission I tend to instruct the population to clear an area to get wood quickly.

just seems to be a harder start but it's still easy if you have at least played normal mode enough to know what resources to prioritise at the start.

I've got 21 villagers, 25 sheep and 66 chickens :D

with hardmode start on probably well under year 10

actually I lie, it's year 15 and I have cows too

That's a lot of livestock, how did you get that much? what did you trade to purchase them? or were you lucky and started with them?

I started my first village, everything was going really nicely. Decided it was time to build a trader and get some livestock. Built it and waited....and waited...and waited but still no boats visiting.....then i realised I'd built my fisheries and trader on a lake :D

HAHAHA and you even owned up to it :) Oh well Im sure your not the only one that will restart a few times.

Does this game have any combat or quests? Seems like the perfect thing to have in it, barbarian raids on your village, monsters in the forests scaring locals etc.

Not at the moment.

It may come along as an add-on or get modded in at some point.

Tbh it's bad enough just keeping the village alive as it is without other people attacking you.

Yeah im sure someone will mod it in. If you want something that you get attacked currently Id take a look at:

Timber & stone
or
Gnomoria

Both are build and survive style games that have combat elements.

Got my population upto 90, no disasters at all (even thought they weren't working)
then broke 100/45/51, had crop failures, typhus outbreaks and as i'd built 75% of my food
on crops, i starved down to 40 :(

Its evil isn't it :( In the blink of an eye it all comes crashing down...but the you get to either manage it, or start again :)

I got to about 80 then got hit by a tornado that just wiped out about 40 then another bunch die of old age. It's a ghost town :(

I've moved onto my main PC to play this as the laptop just wasn't cutting it. Much better on a bigger screen and a card that can handle it.

Trying to get started on hard is a bit more of a challenge. Running out of food and tools by year 2 and people dying of starvation - haven't quite got the balance right yet.

I bought some Pecan seeds, I thought I could just select the seed type to work on my farms but it has not appeared. This is the second time items bought at the trade post has not appeared, Last time was 30 odd chickens.

Try orchard instead of crop field mate, they probably there.

always have 2k firewood at the trader.

live stock breed so I started with around 4-6 of each of each and gained 1-2 every season as they made babies.

I'm suprised no one noticed my population is 22/0/2 :P

I'm monitoring the ages though my adults are mostly 40-50 so I just stuck 3 new houses down for the next generation to be born.

the guy already said non of the madders will be able to alter the ai scripts, guess covering his ass so he can release expansions/dlc and have people buy them.
basically all we are likely to get with mods is texture replacement mods , people adding buildings/food/items but they will have to use the same ai the other buildings do...

so expect stuff like someone taking one of the seeds , copy/pasting the code renaming it cannabis seed , adding a new texture for the field ,lduplicating the code/building for blacksmith/tailer etc but changing the skin of it and the item it creates to "joints" etc

if people can't change the ai scripts or add there own the mods will be very limited and like the above example

This game can be brutal, I thought I was doing pretty well with a population of about 170 then next thing I know my town has Influenza. Add to the mix some crop failures, madly ending up butchering all my livestock and panic buying at the Trade Port. I now keep a health stock to trade for a disaster.

How on earth do you guys manage to get so much firewood?

I mean i litterally had 4 foresters and 2 wood cutters, providing less then 100 pop and i was always running low.

maybe your workers are always walking somewhere?

storage barns are not supposed to be built as your current ones get full.

a single fisherman gets around 180 fish a season.
a single fisherman with a storage barn right next to the dock gets around 280

make sure the foresters wood is going to a barn that your choppers are next to so put a stockpile next to a barn next to the choppers

they will save so much time running to get supplies/drop stuff off that they will be stupidly efficient compared to if you have one barn in a central location.

the market place should be in a central location with the barns close to where things are being made.

The way i had it setup was like this:

Woodcutters where the other side of the river closest to the market.

Each cluster was: 1 Forester, 1 Herbalist, 1 Hunter and 1 Gatherer All maxed out
