Banished - upcoming city-building strategy

Some people said (scroll up) they put the gatherer, hunting, herbalist and forester all in the same wood...just that everything but the forester is on max.

I guess it comes down to space, its obviously more efficient if you can use the same area for all of them and takes up less room.

As to if it results in less food etc you need to do some checks.

Just had a quick watch of your standard start video, some nice tips in there.

One thing I picked up on is the gatherers hut by the foresters lodge. The tutorial states that the gatherers hut is more efficient when next to older, more mature trees, if you put this by the foresters lodge does that not make it less efficient. So far I have been keeping them separate.

I don't think it makes that much of a difference to be honest as Forester don't clear huge swaths of woodland. In certain circumstances they may even be of benefit as forester will plant trees in clearing and remove stone and iron deposits allowing more trees to grow.

Yeah I used to place a herbalist near a forester with 2/2 workers who are only planting. It let my herbalist get a tonne of herbs

I did record a video before actually putting a post in here where I had a look at some of the different production numbers with different places (e.g. 5x5 farm, 10x10, 15x15).

Food Produced

I used one of my biggest towns as evidence. One thing I'll need to take a look at is the amount of food produced with farms having the same distance to a market to see if different food types produce more than others with the same distance.

I'll probably do this using this lay-out, (|/-) are roads.

FARM | FARM
(15x15) | (15x15)
---- MARKET ----
(15x15) | FARM
FARM | (15x15)

Whats the end game in this?

Seen too many comments (Various sites) that seem to suggest that once you get over the initial learning curve, that you can get a decent city going and in the end it pretty much runs itself? And with that you are just waiting for a disaster or something to give you somethign else to do?

Is that the case/

tbh I am pretty surprised that there isn't windmills and bakeries in the game, they seem like rather important parts of a semi-subsistence farming set-up like this.

Also long term I'd like to see things like pottery/jewellery production which would give better return in trading.

Great ideas - hopefully we will see these sorts of things come with mods! I was thinking of being able to milk the cows too.

I just found poor old grandma Evon the 77year old builder lost in the woods miles away from town :D

That is indeed the case unless you like going for achievements.

Yeah, that's the case. I'm still on my first game and already I've sorted my village out.

Don't really see the point of playing much longer.

played this for 2 days now and the game has become rather boring. there is no end game. the only reason to continue playing is to make my town slightly more efficient.

one thing i do really hate about this game is the random places the villagers will go to put supplies. i've had a coal mine with a half empty stockpile right out side it, to find a villager putting coal and a stockpile on the other side of the map. i also often find my farmers who become labourers too far from the farms by the time spring comes, meaning summer hits before most are even back to lay the seeds and then the farms don't produce nearly half as much as they should.

it's a decent idea of a game but a tad too basic.

i can't seem how combat could be added as you can't select villagers as such. i could only imagine it'd be done in the the enemies will come in and start causing chaos and then you have to build defense buildings which shoot them and that's about it.

and I remember dev interviews where he talks about over farming and having to move stuff around.

yet it doesn't seem to happen at all

Some of my more unusual deaths in Banished so far....

The first occurred during the great famine of 64 when about 130 people sarved!

This was clearly a polite way of saying this guys so thick he swung, missed and hit himself!

A bit of a fatty?

Post up yours but none of the rock fall/cave in ones. i did have a herdsman get trampled but didn't catch the screenshot

Christ I'm finding this game difficult, which of the food gathering thingies lasts the longest? I usually use gatherers and hunters but it seems that they do eventually drain an area dry of said food resources. Farms and Orchids seem to routinely die before I can get any yeild from them, so once the harvesters and hunters run dry I'm doomed! :p

I guess I could expand far and build harvesters/hunters and cover the map far but I like to expand village size slowly filling as much space as possible, anybody got any tips? Seems I need to find a way to boost yield speed or stop the crops from dying in winter.

Cheers!

Build a hunter, gatherer and forester in a block in some woodland. They'll never strip all the resources then so long as the forester isn't cutting most of the time.

Good to see some posts about this. How are people who usually enjoy AoE and the like finding this? Sounds right up my street.

It's a lot of fun, a hell of a lot. But from somebody who's ran through Civ 5 multiple times on diety and managed a 4 man squad Ironman campaign of Xcom on impossible... I'm struggling like **** to last longer than an hour. :p

Dunno why. :(
