I have used this really good site for quite awhile now and it has kept unwanted calls from both my mobiles and land line, so as the service is free I wanted to pass on the site in case you too are having problems.

NOTE: Unsolicited Text Messages SMS can't be stopped through the above site (TY to Hyburnate for pointing this out).

Info on what to do when you get one can be found here: Unsolicited Text Messages

It's not even particularly good at stopping calls to landlines. We still get perstered by ppi companies etc. They just don't care about TPS.

It's very easy to block unsolicited text messages because they all contain the same phrase, just add that phrase to the filter and all texts about ppi claims etc. will be blocked regardless of the number that sent them.

I tried adding 'PPI' as a banned keyword, but it says the word needs to be at least 4 characters long. Any advice? (Android btw).

PPI then a space works, dunno if it still blocks them (never had any, so never bothered trying to block them) but I don't see why it wouldn't unless they're unable to use spaces correctly :).

Ive never registered to any of these services, I get maybe 1 or 2 of these texts a year?

Fake numbers don't work because a verification text is sent to confirm the number is real, and services like sky require a landline.

Most services don't require a real number and if they do are unlikely to sell to spam.

Off course landlines are usually required, doesn't mean it heeds a phone plugged into them though.
Haven't had a phone physically plugged in for years, although I keep a phone to plug in, for like the free virgin help line.

Had just one spam phone call, which was PPI although they said I must if had PPI as they had my number. Total them I wasn't interested and never had any other spam sums or phone calls, must have had this number ~2 years now. And work one had over 5 years and not one spam anything on that.

I'll direct you to this thread.

It's become increasingly common for websites to require real mobile no's for registration or otherwise these days.

And I'll direct you to what you quoted. Such sites are not going to sell your number and there's still very few sites that need it.

You obviously didn't read the thread.

I've lost my old flickr account and really don't want to register a new yahoo account with my phone number, as the last time I used it I ended up getting tons of sales calls even though they say they're not going to "share" it.

I mean good grief I used my number to order a Dominos take away and then started getting loads of junk messages from them.
