Facebook to buy WhatsApp For $16 Billion

Aye, it's broken as of about 10mins ago.

Life = Over!

Dear oh dear.

They paid 19 billion and they couldn't simply take over the same servers?

Just concretes my earlier post. Facebook didn't simply buy whatsapp. The government just bought a ****load of communications. Dodgy government. :(

They're probably setting up new racks in the heart of the NSA's brand new datacentre in Utah as we speak. :(

Seriously considering moving to private hosted comms. Microsoft Lync perhaps.

My experience with WhatsApp has become worse over the past few months. On occasions it simply doesn't connect, when I click on a friend and it normally says "last online 5 minutes ago" it will say nothing... no new messages will come through. Therefore this means there can be a delay of 20 minutes before I receive the message.

It's been happening more and more often recently, very, very annoying.
Glad its not just me then noticing this... however this outage has lasted 2 hours currently, went at around 6:30

The US government most certainly are creaming themselves.

Here's a little scenario:

  • Bob says he'd bang the secretary.
  • This, and all, messages are autonomously replicated and stored in brand new purpose built multi-billion dollar facility in Utah.
  • Message containing "bang" is flagged by algorithm.
  • Secratary gets raped few days later
  • Bob is automatically on his way to jail.

Heck the US government even has static routes set up on the internet backbones themselves, (not to mention the Tier 1 level snooping) which routes all traffic bound for places like the middle east straight throgh NSA infiltrated IXPs.

And people think 19 billion dollars has just been spent so "Facebook can merely own Whatsapp" :D

And people think 100+ billion dollars has just been spent on infiltrating major IXPs, securing backdoors to internet corporations, centralizing communications, and building a brand new data processing and quantum cracking facility so they can laugh at you and johnny deciding what your're going to have for lunch? :D

:(

I'm going to spam the word bang. BRB, will report from prison next.

I did consider downloading WhatsApp onto my old S2 as a replacement for text messages. However, my S4's plan came with unlimited texts, so just as well really.

Whatsapp uses wifi if you have bad signal
Whatsapp is free to send MMS, whereas pretty much every contract charges extra
Whatsapp is good for sending videos and audio messages
Whatsapp is good for groups etc

Just a few benefits off the top of my head. Fingers crossed FB don't wreck it over the long term.
