Hi all

Currently learning to drive in a Golf 2.0 Turbo diesel manual

I am over 25 with a job so the budget isn't ultra low, I was thinking perhaps an Audi A3 or a Golf but I am open to suggestions as to what my first car should be or any other advice for a new car owner. :p

cheers

While it is tempting to get something 'nice' there's a high likelihood you will prang it at some point I'm sorry to say, although you're unlikely to be racing along B roads with all your mates yelling 'go faster!' In your ear while they're necking White Lightning. By a decent Ford Focus that's reliable, cheap to run and insure and save some money for a nicer car two or three years down the line.

Do you need a car as big as a golf or a3? A smaller car is more fun to drive generally even if you not going fast, and your less likely to bump it when parking.

I was thinking of the 3 door hatchback option, if that makes them substantially smaller.

A golf or an A3 are hardly big cars are they? Most cars smaller than them will be very noisy and unrefined on the motorway. Personally, I'd go for something larger than a Golf or A3 - maybe an Exeo or a Mondeo, but then I like big cars.
