Car Seat as a desktop chair?

As above get an office chair or one that looks like a bucket car seat if you're after looks

Not really about the looks, but longer lasting chair. I've had office chairs for 200 quid and they only lasted me 1 year, now I'm using Kashmir Microfiber which lasted me about 10 months. I know one person who uses car seat as a desktop chair daily and hes happy with it. There also Kei who uses a car seat (from an old saab), it's always something different...

How do you wear chairs out so fast?

I've had my office chair for over 10 years and that was 2nd hand from the local council, i've recovered it twice and replaced the form but its still going strong, unless the gas strut fails i've not plans to replace it.

Also i can't have a chair with arm rests as i play guitar and it seems rather hard to get a decent office chair nowadays without arms :(

As I do some sim racing, I used the passenger seat out of my 6 series while it was waiting for repair. A car seat I can easily do an 8 hour drive in. Fantastic for the online racing, gives you a much more natural position for driving games, but for anything else I got crippling back pain as its just not the right position to be in for typing/browsing/FPS gaming. As been said, the upward slant of the base, and reclined seat back make it uncomfortable to reach forward to do normal PC stuff, if you adjust the seat back more upright then you are folded double. A truck/van seat may be a little better, as the base is a bit flatter, but an air suspended seat does nothing to aid comfort while sitting still.

Wouldn't recommend unless you have a lot of time to adjust heights etc to get a seat position thats right for you. Also, many car seats are VERY heavy and awkward to move, you would need some high strength casters to mount it on.

I bought some range rover seats to set up on the chair base that i had. I had two issues, the first was they were seriously heavy for a chair so proved very difficult to mount. The second was that i bought electric ones because they were close and cheap. I was going to put a little bike battery on to keep the electric function.

In the end it proved too much hassle so i just sold them on. To do it properly you need to spend a lot of time looking at how to mount them to a swivel base properly without looking like a mess. Otherwise you end up with a rail bolted onto a flat base with a lot of bracketry which you don't really want to see on show.

The car seat in that pic does look pretty rubbish IMHO.
I only made it as my office chair was knackered and i had the seat spare after switching to a leather interior. Can't knock free hence why it's grey velour not black/cream leather. (a big plus point with an office chair anyway as leather just doesn't wear well with the amount of use) The base needs some refinement but it is perfectly functional. The backrest reclines, headrest goes up & down, the gas lift works and the base tilt still works too. (even has a handy storage pocket on the back too) If I wanted arm rests, it wouldn't take much effort to sort them out just never bothered as I find they get in the way. In any case, it's the most comfortable office chair I've ever used.
