I still don't get jarhead aside from a couple of scenes which visually are stunning the rest of the movie is booooooooring both from an action or intellectual perspective.

The Hurt Locker despite being a bit meh overall has a few scenes that are worth watching for.

And unless you have a really whacked sense of humour whatever you do don't watch tropic thunder.

You might find the unit and band of brothers TV series intersting if you've not watched them also.

On a related note while not an action war movie I quite enjoyed Hart's War IIRC.

Jarhead is supposed to be boring. The point is he's trained so hard for this job and he's then stuck in the desert doing nothing waiting for his moment. That nothing really happens reflects his experience of life in the military.

black hawk down is trash imo

apacolypse now is decent

theres one with lee marvin in and a Japanese guy called hell in the pacific plus the dirty dozen

Which is great an all but doesn't make for a very interesting movie literally might as well watch paint dry.

Indeed. Is it a good movie because it accurately conveys boredom, or is it merely boring? There's a similar argument to be had regarding Lost In Translation for what it's worth.
