War/Army films

A bridge too far. Amazing cast etc. Shame about the non german tanks:/

Hello, Roy.
How are you?
I'm not sure
that I'll know for a while.
But I'm sorry about
the way it worked out.
You did all you could.
Yes, but did everyone else?
They've got a bed for you upstairs,
if you want it.
I took 10,000 men into Arnhem.
I've come out with less than 2,000.
I don't feel much like sleeping.
Quite.
I've just been on to Monty.
He's very proud and pleased.
- Pleased?
- Of course.
He thinks Market Garden
was 90% successful.
But what do you think?
Well, as you know, I've always thought
we tried to go a bridge too far.

Ooh, no one's mentioned All Quiet On The Western Front. Made in the 30s, but the scale is epic. It tells the story of German soldiers in WW1. Hitler had it banned in the lead up to WW2 because he felt it would be damaging to the war effort.

Most recent? I've got three words for you :p

Saving
Private
Ryan

Opening scene beggars belief :D

What opening scene is that? The old bloke walking towards a grave in a US cemetery followed by his family 20 yards behind, falling to his knees at a particular grave and crying ;) :p

It is a great film though. Also another vote for A Bridge to Far.

Under no CIRCUMSTANCES should anybody ever watch the Company Of Heroes Film    steaming pile of turd that it is

I really like Jarhead, although it is not your "typical" war film. I would like to echo others and say that a Band of Brothers is a must watch, it's spiritual successor The Pacific, is not as good but definitely worth a watch as well. My favourite war film/TV show is Generation Kill, absolutely brilliant.
