Are factory overclocked cards the same as non factory overclocked cards physically? Or are they slightly different to handle better?

I ask because I'm looking for a card to crossfire with my existing vtx3d 7970 card but finding the same timings is difficult, however if the cards are actually the same then I can pick a card with base clock same as my existing base clock and then clock them both the same and they will both be under as much stress

I think factory overclocked cards arent physically different but I want to make sure

Any 7970 will work with that one, the stock speeds will be based off the slower card.

That isn't strictly true. The cards can and do run at their own independent clocks. If 1 card is clocked slightly lower then it will be running at 100% usage and the faster card will run at a slightly reduced %. But most overclocking software will have an option to set matched clocks. I always tend to run my 2 7970's at same clocks - but not sure if it gives smoother performance or just a symptom of my ocd.

I know it will work but I'm wanting to get the most out of it.

VTX3D has 1050mhz core clock and 1425mhz memory clock out of the box but it's from 925mhz core and 1350mhz memory or something I think so a 7970 card with 925mhz core and 1350mhz not overclocked would be just as good/the same right?
