What would it take to bottleneck an i5 4670k?

What would it take for an i5 4670k to be a bottleneck?

I'm about to buy a CPU bundle but I want it to be fairly future proof, I have 1 gtx770 but when Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous come out I'm going to need to add another 770.

Would a stock i5 4670 hold two 770's back, if not what would?

There's certain games a 4670K will bottleneck a 770 SLI, a 4770K would elevate it better, Mantle would help, but well Nvidia don't support Mantle so there's that, an i7 would be the best bet for total fool proof solution.
 
I was looking at the i7 4770k but I think it's the same performance as the i5 4670k, we just pay more for the hyper-threading which games don't use yet anyway. All the tests I look at show the i7 to be maybe 2-3% faster.

Surely that will bottleneck almost the same?

In the vast majority of games there's like nil difference, but it's a very few select titles which require the extra threads offered by the HT to push the magnitude of 2 GTX 770's (It could be down to the FPU performance, the i5 4670K has tapped out, as it doesn't get 100% used, but it'll still have a bottleneck, but with the 4770K, with the HT, it's got more to give on the FPU front, Cinebench from what I understand is an FPU bench, but obviously that's down to the extra threads)

If you were playing a game that could only use 4 threads, and the i5 4670K was bottlenecking, then an i7 4770K would indeed do the same (Clock's depending)
 
Really the only thing to be worried about is future games that make use of smarter AI, physics calculations, cpu intensive tasks especially on a map the size of Arma 3/dayz. Let alone what is planned for games like star citizen. There have been a lot of rumors Watch Dogs will be a CPU intensive game that will make use of multiple threads due to the many things happening in real time.

But then that's not really considered bottlenecking the 770 more that the game is CPU heavy. I was under the impression bottlenecking a GPU means you aren't getting the full performance from the GPU due to a slower CPU.
 
If the GPU's not getting full performance because the CPU's bogged down/unable to give more etc, that's bottlenecking, regardless of why it's occurring in the game.
 
I think for peace of mind I would get the i-7 but saying that I opted for the i5-4670K because I was informed that for gaming the i5 is fine. I've had no problems with my CPU running at stock with a GTX780 which I don't overclock either.
 
if the past is anything to go by if you want to be really futureproof, get as much cores as you possibly can! (not counting amd cores as they are much slower than intel) so get a 4930k hex core or wait 9 months for a haswell-e octo core! but yes definitely i7 over i5 these days to be remotely future proof.
 
I doubt it would bottleneck much, but saying that if your going to spend money on two cards its a bit silly not paying that bit more for an I7.
 
I really doubt you'd be upset with the performance of the i5 - especially with a single GPU, but generally people who use dual GPUs claim to see a noticeable difference with the i7.
