Had my trusted B5.5 Passat 1.8T Estate for 8 years, it’s done 173k, had much abuse and mods thrown at it, and I can honestly say it’s been a fantastic car in most respects (bar the steering)… I knew (for me) it wasn’t going to be an easy car to replace, since it costs buttons to run and wasn’t too slow after I’d messed with it.

New car criteria wise, I had a rather open ended search, which ranged from a 190bhp 2011 Freelander HSE to an Audi TTS, so in truth my head was all over the place, I didn’t know what I wanted, nor really needed out of a new car, however I knew it needed to strike some middle ground between looks, performance, practicality and toys.

After messing around looking at stuff which was never going to work day to day, i.e. the Freelander would drive me bonkers for being too slow, I decided to compile a list of functions / features I want the car to do.

- DSG style autobox.
- Decent sized engine with good performance.
- Had to look smart and be a nice place to sit.
- Wanted 'new' features like Radar Guided Cruise Control.
- Relaxing over long distances.

This list pointed me towards a coupe / saloon style car, namely I was looking at an A5 / A6 or XF.

All of the above got dropped one by one, i.e. found it hard to find a fully loaded A5 or A6 within budget, and in the end decided a RWD XF wasn’t going to work for holidays away during winter.

At this point I started looking back towards the VW lineup and realised I’d totally overlooked the CC, dug a little deeper and found the 2.0TFSI would be acceptable performance wise, however finding one with Bi-Xenons specified was just about impossible, and I refused to own a diesel.

It was at this point I read VW produced, in very small UK numbers, a 3.6 V6 CC with 4 motion and DSG, sounded good, and set off on my hunt for one….

I couldn't.... Turns out VW sold very few of these top spec cars, if “How Many Left” is to believed, a total of 49 V6 CC’s have been registered in the UK since 2009, so this wasn’t going to be an easy search.

A few weeks later, after i'd all but given up one poped up 70 miles from home, and better still it was in a good colour, Black, with just about every single factory option ticked, so I went to view it, long story short i purchased the car that very day.

Headline figures are, 3.6 V6, 300BHP, 0-60 in 5.5 Seconds, 155mph (limited), 6 speed DSG, one owener car, serviced from new by the same VW dealer.

Along with the cars standard features, such as adaptive chassi control and Nappa Leather, it’s had around 8k’s worth of optional extras thrown at it (which I’ve found at the moment):

- Four 8J x 19 ‘Lugano’ with 235/35 R19 ContiSeal (self-sealing) tyres and anti-theft wheel bolts.

- Automatic Distance Control (ADC), Including Front Assist, radar sensor controlled distance monitoring system (Radar Cruise).

- Front seats with electric 12-way adjustment and driver’s seat memory, Including electrically adjustable lumbar support and electrically foldable door mirrors with automatic dimming function on driver’s side. Seating position memory function for three drivers.

- Heated rear seats and heated windscreen.

- Panoramic sunroof & electric rear sunblind.

- Gas discharge (Bi-Xenon) dipped and main beam headlights, Including automatic range adjustment, dynamic curve lighting, headlight washers and daytime running lights.

- Special paint, metallic.

- DVD touch-screen navigation/radio system with ‘Dynaudio’ soundpack, With 61⁄2" colour screen, 30 GB hard drive, SD card reader, MP3, WMA and DVD video data files compatibility and AUX-in socket for connection to an external multimedia source (e.g. iPod and MP3 player). Including 10 channel digital amplifier, 600 watt output and 10 speakers.

- Telephone preparation, For Bluetooth (rSAP) enabled telephones.

- Park Assist including parking sensors, front and rear and rear-view camera, Automated steering assistant for parallel parking, manoeuvres into spaces only 1.1 m longer than the vehicle. Ultrasonic and audible parking sensors.

- Multifunction steering wheel including paddle shift for DSG gearbox.

Wow! I actually found out my self they did a 3.6 version of the CC. This was when I was browsing the net for R36 Passat.

Being totally honest, the Passat CC is the only car VW make that remotely appeals to me.

I wasn't even aware of this particular variant but it sounds like you got the perfect example. performance figures are nothing to sniff at either.

nice find.

Cheers all, if the book mpg figures are to be trusted it shouldn't even cost the world to keep filled-up, things like the 345mm front discs are £170 each and pads around £130 for the fronts, service costs seem acceptable and it has no cambelt.

Just hope the DSG Mechatronics doesn't start playing up...

I like it a lot, you still in Congleton m8, think its your turn to take me out in one of your cars for once.

Looks a very impressive bit of kit, are you going to tell us what a car like this cost and what was the new list price out of curiosity?

That's mine, it's sat with the dealer getting two bits of trim fixed, pick it up this weekend (fingers crossed) :)

Lot of car for the cash!

Thought I had seen it but didn't look at the pictures carefully. How much less then the asking price did you get it for?

Not in Congleton anymore though, will give you a shout over FB at somepoint :)
