Placed in GD to get better Support for my Local Racetrack.

When I arranged the meet local to me I took all the Bikers up Mallory, It's a great little track with a warm friendly atmosphere & it deserves all the support you can muster.

So here's the article posted in my local paper & the link is at the bottom of the post.
If you read through you'll see it will be well worth making the trip for.

New bosses at Mallory Park are on a charm offensive as they relaunch the venue as one of the country’s premier ‘go-to’ racing circuits.

Directors of Real Motorsport Ltd are planning an open day for Saturday March 1 with free entry and a host of classic, vintage and famous bikes and cars on show.

Racing outfits are being urged to secure a place for the showcase event to launch their new season teams while vehicle enthusiasts’ clubs are expected to turn out their finest models.

Among the high-profile speed demon machines on display will be an F1 racer driven by James Hunt and a superbike ridden by Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood.

Eddie Roberts, a former championship motorcycle rider who is now running the circuit withsuperbike team owner Stuart Hicken, said they hoped local people would embrace the event.

He added: “The idea is to get people along to see what we are doing here and reassure them we are here to run the track the way it should be run.

“Obviously there has been contention in the past with noise but we are going to be enforcing a zero tolerance policy on excessively loud vehicles and we are doing all we can to address noise escape issues.

“We are trying to make life easier for everyone. We’ve installed drive-by sound recording here and are establishing noise monitoring points in Kirby Mallory.

“When we’ve found out where the problems are we’ll do all we can to provide acoustic defence.”

The circuit’s renaissance has also stepped up a gear with the formation of Mallory Motorsports Club Limited which will trade as Club Mallory and is aimed at uniting enthusiasts, riders, drivers and marshalls. Membership is available at an introductory price of £25 a year and fans can email [email protected] or sign up on the open day.

The revival comes after previous operators Mallory Park Motorsport Ltd went bust, falling foul of legal action over residents complaints of ‘intolerable’ noise and excessive number of meets.

Until then the circuit had a relatively troublefree history officially opening as a motorsport race track in 1956 after initially hosting pony-trotting events on grass in the late 1940s.

Its heyday was in the 1960s and 70s when it hosted almost every major British car and superbike championships and also European competitions.

Famous names to have graced Mallory include the legendary Mike Hailwood, Barry Sheene, Nelson Piquet, Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart

Mr Roberts, boss of Complog a leading worldwide retailer of motorcycle tyres, and Mr Hicken, who runs the Hawk Superbikes team, took over the site in December last year.

Both have links with the circuit and are well known in the motorcycle racing world.

Mr Roberts added: “We have had so much support from people since taking over. More than 38,000 people signed a petition to save the circuit and we get members of the public coming along every day offering to help.

“Stuart and myself are businessmen but we are passionate about motorsport and about Mallory Park. This place has got soul, it’s unique. That’s what we want to highlight during the open day.”

Actual racing is pencilled in for mid-March

Used to go there a a kid.

Still drive past it at least once a week on the way to me mums place.

Shame they've had issues with complaints about the noise. Never was any problem with that in the past until all of the hedge rows and trees were removed between the village and the track.

I wonder how many people who purchased their house prior to Mallory Park's opening in 1955 are complaining about the noise. Because, these are the only people who have any right whatsoever to complain.

So disappointing to see the trouble going on around Mallory Park, sadly something that is beginning to affect a number of our race circuits. I went there in 1979 for the first time and took my first race car on track in 1984 there, having a good spin at Gerrards as I recall like it was yesterday. It does annoy me when people move in to locations with airports, race tracks and mainline railway lines and then do everything in their power to get them closed down, which is what is happening here.

I have fond memories of Mallory Park, watching my uncle take his frog eyed sprite around :)
My first scalextric track was based on Mallory. I do think it's funny that in my day no one moaned about the noise
but both Mallory and Silverstone get in now days :(. I hope they have a very successful open day.

That doesn't stop anybody. People seem to think that owning a house somewhere gives them the right to influence the sorts of activities that happen nearby.

And this, in my opinion, is what's wrong. Especially if they moved into said house, knowing that within the vicinity is a race track, airport, church etc. This shouldn't be allowed!

It's a tough one. I'd feel sorry for people who moved next to Heathrow when there were 20 propeller planes a day flying in and suddenly the jet age arrived. But racetracks haven't really gotten any louder, and it's not a late night activity that's going to keep you up.

House prices around Heathrow are insane though, thanks in part to the location of the airport. If people want peace they could easily afford a similar property in a quieter area.

And many of the UK’s race circuits were developed from airfield perimeter roads, particularly after WW2... so it's not like the area had been quiet before the circuit was built as the airfields there previously were noisy! To get a time when the areas were quiet you'd have to wind back to pre 1940s before the airfields were built. How many of the NIMBY's complaining lived there then!?

To be fair the amount of days per week the track was used was a lot more than it was say 20 years ago. Tracks are developed & used in lots of ways these days so it's not just twice a week they get the noise it can be up to 7 days a week.
I think I'm right in saying that the residents are only asking for the track to be used as it was agreed.

Blimey  You gonna give us the story Diagro ?

Did you brake After the tree instead At the tree :D

Don't forget folks if you're not doing anything Saturday then head up to the Free Event @ Mallory Park.

We (the fans of coventry speedway) face our own nightmare as malory park in a few years, as the owner has decided to sell coventry stadium.

Near zero chance of them finding a new site in the area with a near certain wave of complaints about noise.

As said by a few above, we took great advantage buying a cheaper house near to the end of the runway at eastmidlands airport. While we had no complaints about the noise, those around us were constantly encouraging us to join the crusade against it.

I remember when they had dog racing at Coventry stadium, about 8 people would attend. That didn't last long.

Damn, I just said I'd work this Saturday instead of going in Friday!!

Any ideas what you "get" if you become a member? There's not a right lot of good info I can find, especially now it's under new ownership..
