What MMORPG's are people playing?

Lol, i have been following both eso and wildstar with interest. Wildstar receives practically nothing but praise, ESO nothing but scorn. Yet you are here stating that wildstar was terrible and you are getting eso on release :P

I am looking forward to trying wildstar, if its got that wow feeling like people say then it could be great.

I think this amply clears up the vast majority of the keyboard warriors beating the anti ESO drum

Wildstar looks and plays like a game for children, its combat is boring button mashing and the questing is just full of hubs with collect 10 sheep testicles.

The lore is basically there to tick a box, its unimaginative and bland. There is plenty of places around the internet who have problems with wildstar, but if you spend your time on pro wildstar sites, what do you expect to find?

This game is free realms 2.0, for the children who played that game and grew up now need something familiar.

There is not 1 thing that is new to the genre and as such its just a gw2/wow clone.

Still playing EVE although on a bit of a burnout cycle just now but I feel the itch coming back. Just started on Planetside 2 finding it pretty enjoyable so far. Never found anything to replace Neocron or "Neocrack" as the small dedicated fan base called it.

I only read the threads here not pro any game websites lol. As for it being a wow clone...good? Wow was an amazing game that just got dumbed down too much and the need to leave the cities taken away. I am fine with quest hubs and collect x amount quests along with kill a certain dude or find a number of items etc. What other quests would you expect in an mmo? :|

So yeah, if someone were to tell me outright that 'wildstar is just like buying wow with updates graphics' then yeah fine, sign me up. I will still wait to see them both for myself though, i never let others opinions influence me too much.

And what is the difference for ESO then? because when I last played the beta I have to collect stuff, go from A to B. Oh wow you can go into first person!

I would say out of playing both othe them I would have thought ESO would go F2P in a flash. Wildstar got my attention within the first 10 levels and made me want to play more.

I like it how they have put both mechanics from WoW and GW2 with the telegraphs on the floor

This forum never ceases to amaze me, one minute a wow clone is bad, I.e swtor, the next its OK..

Wow was great, but after 10 years I think swtor is evidence that the community want more.

It took me 10 mins of playing to hate wildstar, gave it another hour and was so bored I just have up.

You both keep avoiding the fact that its very childish in design.

Looks almost identical to wildstar.

ESOs questing is the same, but there is one difference, you feel engaged with the quests, so the pointlessness of them is muddled behind cloak and dagger, where wildstar sticks the pointlessness in your eye.

I am not avoiding the fact that its cartoony - I wouldn’t go as far as childish though. But its down to an individual preference.

Where ESO is more serious and dark I find that Wildstar has more humour, which is best suited in the design they have gone for.

As long as it plays how I want it to play and it keeps me engaged then I don’t see what the problem is. Yes its grindy but there are plenty of other things to pull you away and have a break from.

You seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to games, and you flame anything/anyone that doesn’t agree with you.

Dont get me wrong I will give ESO ago but ill wait till there is a option to try before I buy or F2P

I feel like i'm attending an AA meeting here, but I came in this thread to confess...

I'm back playing WoW :(

That damn free MoP trial got me hook line and sinker.

Already said my goodbye's to my socia life, I feel so dirty.

I'm playing no MMOs at the moment. 15 years since I started giving my life over to MMOs, with:

DAOC <-- Played FAR too much
Everquest 2 <-- Great graphics, but limited community
Eve Online <-- I thought this would be a space sim!?
Vanguard <-- *soo* buggy on release
DDO <-- What do you mean you can only heal once per dungeon?
WoW <-- Questing made easy. Not enough of a challenge
Warhammer Online <-- DAOC meets WoW, and the child isn't pretty
LOTRO <-- played FAR too much.
Neverwinter <-- For a F2P, great. For a payed game, no thanks.

I supported Camelot Unchained (DAOC 2) and Star Citizen on Kickstarter, but having since ditched windows, its not clear if I'll ever get to play these.

So instead I'm bumbling about in non-MMOs like the Kerbal Space Program and DOTA 2. But I remiss fondly about days gone past of the mighty MMO grind, and hope that they may one day return.

WoW is really the only one that appealed to me, played it nearly every day for hours for nearly 2 years straight. I've tried all of the free ones though such as SWTOR, RIFT, TERA, D&D and LOTRO and thought they were all pretty terrible apart from maybe TERA since the combat was a lot more challenging, but never really got into it. RIFT is just a complete modern-day ripoff of WoW with updated graphics; although I do like the feature whereby you can queue up to join a group of people and you teleport around completing random quests, quite an innovative and fun way of levelling up.
Oh and I played FFXIV:ARR for a few levels and was actually enjoying it, but can't keep up paying for both that and WoW monthly, becomes too costly.

For me I wanted to get away from Wow, spent to much time on it and it kept on bringing me back to playing it!

Wildstar is similar which is good in a way, but the setting is different and the mechanics are slightly different with the telegraphs on the floor. Just waiting for the servers to go back up at 5pm so I can get to the next area.

I played Rift when it went to F2P and I think it has got that bit right and not spoil the game too much! Didnt get to end game because WoW brought me back and I didnt have the time to do both.

SWTOR - Played 10mins and uninstalled this was very restrictive with having to spend money to get certain things

I havent really played much of Tera but I have heard good things about it.

I've been playing Neverwinter pretty solidly for about 10 months. It seems to have just the right amount of content for me to maintain my interest. playing for 1 or 2 hours a day is more than enough to keep 3 Characters ticking over and progressing, but if I want a 6 hour session then I don't run out of things to do.

It doesn't do anything new, but it has a decent community and they seem to be making constant improvements and additions.

Some of the environments are fantastic, particularly when you hit level 40+.

I always read people complaining that it is Pay to Win, but I never felt like I needed to pay in order to compete. It might take you a little longer to get where you are going, but that's kinda how F2P games have to be. You either contribute money, or you contribute your time by being an active part of the community. I can play PVP and run Epic dungeons with my guild without spending a penny.

I tried a few MMO's over the years but nothing ever really grabbed me, I think Neverwinter just arrived at exactly the right time for me to really get into it.

If anyone is getting involved with Neverwinter and would like some help, PM me and we can discuss meeting up in game. My guild is always looking for new players and I would be happy to help any OCUK members with a bit of extra gold and some advice to get you started :)
I'd certainly like to take you up on some advice for new starters. At the moment I've just finished going through the quests relating to the crown, so only level 9 or so. I did a player-made quest last night which was pretty funny and I suppose I've just been going about it like a traditional MMO.

I have to admit, the number of abbreviations in general chat and the speed at which it scrolls is boggling, even for an old-school MMO'er like me!

Finally, your Trust isn't enabled so I can't message you away from the boards :)
My character names are Pooks and Luw - Rogue and Cleric, respectively.

Still playing EVE although on a bit of a burnout cycle just now but I feel the itch coming back. Just started on Planetside 2 finding it pretty enjoyable so far. Never found anything to replace Neocron or "Neocrack" as the small dedicated fan base called it.

Same thing here tried so many but nothing matched the "neocrack".

Saturn vet here.

MMO's have never really interested me in the past, so haven't given them much attention, but i am currently experiencing a bit of gaming drought so thought i would give one ago, currently downloading the free trial of WOW. Anything a complete MMO noob like myself should know

Your first MMO? My advice would be to say goodbye to anyone your hold dear.

Have a few installed atm

Neverwinter - fun at first but ran out of content really fast

SWtor - - Just doesn't hook and feels really poor on the game mechanics

Tera - fun for a bashing session but questing forget it

LOTRO - played far too much - taking a break atm

Rift - fun find I can usually find lots to do. I have 2 level 60s and still finding content to do

Out of those 5 I would only recommend the latter 2 for a more than an evening session
