Is 1000w PSu enough for 290x crossfire and 3930k ?

Why even bother with hassle they are not that good, sell it and buy a decent 1000-1200 unit (Gibbo even hints above).

How much power would turning HT off save ?

And the psu I've got is the biggest one I can fit in my case lol

Looks like your case has the same PSU limitation as mine (max length 180mm), so a Silverstone Strider 1200W fits in just fine. They were on offer a few days ago, wonder if you could persuade Gibbo to get them on This Week Offer tomorrow?

Fractal Design Newton R3 1000w Platinum is one hell of a PSU and it's semi passive. The fan only activates when the units delivers more than 700watt.

I got it in my 2nd rig with two pretty OC'ed GTX 780's (1150MHz core /7GHz vram) and a Core i7 3820 OC'ed to 4.6GHz (just testing out atm). And it's all stable. When I get a 4930K for my main rig, I'll install the 3930K into this machine and test further with the wattage usage.

I think you problem lies elsewhere.

1000w is enough, Enermax Platinum are solid units, unless you have a defect.

What is your issue anyway? Does it restart as soon as you apply the overclock or during a certain load time?

Do you have a kill-a-watt?

The 860i is a very good psu, just when i bought it GPU's were not that power hungry as they are now so i may have underestimated the lifespan of power with that psu if i continue with crossfire, only on 7850 CF still and looking at my next upgrade :(

I can definatly tell you no.... I have the same cpu at stock... and I just got 2 x 290 today and it shuts off with a AX860 PSU so 2 x 290x definatly wont work.

Cheers bud :(
