Brief history: I rent a car parking space outside my flat. My car was damaged while occupying it last week.

I was informed today that the person who is renting out the spot should be liable for the damage done to the car and should have insurance to cover it.

I can't seem to find much regarding this and was hoping someone could give me some advice on the matter or point me towards some useful information.

Sounds like rubbish to me, otherwise wouldn't car park owners have to pay for accidents on their property?

Could be a different scenario so different regulations. If there is indeed nothing to it then so be it but it would be helpful just to be sure.

Don't be daft that's what your insurance is for it's nothing to do with the person letting you use the land.

Unless the actual, physical, car parking space damaged your vehicle then unlikely the person your renting from will be liable. Might be worthwhile looking through your rent agreement, if one exists.

You pay in small amounts to rent a parking space in car parks. The car park isn't responsible for damage. Don't see why it would be different in this case.

Unless something in the car
Ark damaged the car then no. E.g., a friend had the car port roof collapse and da,age his car due to the heavy snow. This was a structural issue with the car port and so the car park had to pay. Of so done backed into your car then that person is responsible.
