Steam Download Restarting

I bought a cheap COH2 Steam code the other day, and have been attempting to download it.

My internet speed is not great (avg 220kbps) and the COH2 download is over 12GB (can't remember exactly).

I left my PC on for a while the other day, and it got through about 6GB of the download. So I switched it off with the intention of continuing the download the next day. Well the next day comes, and Steam has forgotten about the 6GB it downloaded, and starts from scratch.

It has done this for the last 5 days (starting the download from scratch every time), and as I haven't been able to leave my PC on for a complete day yet, I haven't been able to download it.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? I'm not overly worried as I have lots of other games to play, but I would just like it to be done.

Never seen or heard about this since steam updated the way they manage downloads.

You could try pausing the download before you close steam and shut down your PC?

By "starts from scratch" what exactly do you mean?

Do you mean the %age figure goes back to 0%?

If so, then that's something Steam seems to do - it calculates the remaining download left to go, and then gives you a percentage figure of that.

Still, it does seem like a lot of time taken to download 12Gb, even at 220kbps.

By 'from scratch', I mean that it thinks it has downloaded 0GB out of the ~12GB. So it's literally like it deleted the downloaded files from the last time, and started again.

e : At the weekend I think I will just leave my PC on all day til it is done. It's strange as I've never had this issue before
