I need some stuff to go with my new Guitar, recommendations for amp, cable, strap all sorts

I could also see some kind of fabirc or stuff surrounding the pick ups in its position and they are not sitting tight at all, they all have a little wobble if you touch it....is that normal?

Normal on pickups without covers....

As for the movement this is normal too on nearly every electric guitar that exists! :p

If it's what I think you mean it's almost like there is a strip of a sort of fabric wrapping around the perimeter of the pair of the little rounded plastic covers with the pole-pieces in (someone put me out of my misery and tell me what they're called I can't remember!)... As far as I know they're always like that (though of course on some models they have the covers over the entire pickup so you can't see that part). Why exactly it has the slight wobble I'm not sure - mine do, if I poke the pickups with my finger there is a little give in each direction, but not loads

Fair enough…I'll let that slide.

Seriously, when I open the case of my T5 to pick it up, every time I look at it and admire it before I pick it up. It takes my breath away and I've had it over a month now. I have checked over every mm of that guitar and I could not find a single bump on the surface that shouldn't be there, any misalignment of any lines, binding.

In the first 5 seconds of picking up that Signature T I can feel with my fingers 3 binding errors near the neck. There was a bit of "stuff", like trapped fabric in the gap of the back panel of the controls, that definitely shouldn't be there. That's before the action on each string was off, some were way too high, I know that can be fixed but it wasn't a great first impression. Also didn't like the off white cream binding either, it's like a cream colour which makes it look like it has been sat on the window of a store for about 20 years.

Then I played it, only for 5 mins but meh. I know my skills isn't great so only did the basic chords but my heart wasn't in it.

How much was the Custom Classic ?

£1299.

Funny thing is, they also had a White Signature T with gold hardware, I told them that Andertons has a Signature T with the Nickle hardware for £1099. He was going to see what he can do about the price. That White Signature T with gold hardware is also at £1299. I have a feeling I can push the price down on the Custom Classic down to or close to £1099 with a bit of haggling, seeing it is a 2013 edition and I would think they want to move the stock on.

Dude thats what colour the binding is on Gibsons.

If it was me I would be setting my sights on that custom classic and getting the price down.

But I feel Maybe a GIBSON is not for you....

The Custom Classic has a pure white binding, which I like a lot. I just am not keen on the cream colour one on the others. I rather have no binding than a cream one actually, the no binding maple top is rather nice I thought.

My mind is actually on the Custom Classic, the Signature T is off the list. I will sleep on it, go back and see what kind of deal I can get. As for whether Gibson is right or wrong, will try a couple more PRS out as well, perhaps even an American Strat. I only want 1 electric solid body so want to make it right.

Will try the Custom Classic again, see what my heart says.

Sounds as though you are taking the right approach. Find the one that is right for you and then haggle hard :D

Good call

An American strat is certainly worthy of consideration.

I have now decided I hate PRS guitars with a vengeance tho.

Is that it?

Or does the one in the shop have this headstock?

Same as mine but mine is early 2000's. Lovely guitar and that isn't a bad price either! Still don't think they make Gibsons like they used to.

There is such a difference when you try vintage guitars... just glad I don't have any local music shops that stock vintage gear otherwise I'd be in serious debt!

With reference to point on US Strats above, that's definitely one guitar I don't ever regret buying new (US hardtail Lonestar Strat in sienna sunburst with maple neck). Such a lovely guitar, easy to play, not too heavy and has such a lovely tone. Sadly it isn't really suited to the music I currently play so just sat on my top floor, getting better with age :)

This whole Les Paul experience has taught me one thing.

Buying guitars is like wine, some cheap ones are quite good, some expensive ones are not so. Not every grape makes the same flavour and certainly don't buy the barrel before getting a taste.

Buying Taylors was so much easier, didn't have problems like this at all, I liked every Taylor I picked up.

Tell you what, look at the Gibson tribute with 60s neck. All the sound, fraction of the price. They still have a maple cap on the mahogany too. As a players guitar get a good one and nothing else comes close for vfm. These one have the humbuckers rather than the p90s on the other earlier tributes. Then spend the saving on a USA special strat which again for the money are amazing.

Otherwise if you demand perfection and an all in one then you will have to spend more or even consider a full fat PRS.

Nice guitar except that horrible headstock - I hate the massive version of the Strat headstock (70s isn't it?)

We should totally get a mod to change the title of this thread to something like:

***Official Guitar Appreciation Thread*** :D

And to add my 2 pence to the latest developments - if you're really set on a single electric guitar then you probably want to go for something that can get a good variety of tones (ignoring the JTVs and modelling guitars for a second)... So to me that says either a strat/LP/tele whatever you like but just make sure it's got a humbucker or two plus coil tap, allowing you to bridge the full on humbucker tone but also nice single coil sounds

I'm planning to bite the bullet and *finally* add an American std. Strat to my collection (doesn't have to be a std. necessarily) having sort of given up on the Warmoth plan (too much hassle!). My dilemma though is what colour to go for - I may not bother to re-spray it as discussed so what to go for?! I definitely want a maple neck for the tone, but my other thoughts right now are:

- Red strat... black pickguard and either black or white covers/knobs etc
- Black strat... red-tort pickguard, white covers/knobs etc
- Maybe as the Red above but a blue strat (can't decide if I like that)

I like the 2-tone (and 3 I guess) sunburst as well but I'm not sure - seems to be they are just everywhere... Anyone got some inspiration for me? ;)

To be honest the workhorse guitar has always been the Strat because of the range of sounds.
My lead guitarist has got normal single coil strat pickups but he can go from Hendrix to Metallica to Slayer to Johnny Cash at the flick of a switch and the tones that come out of his fingers.

I still wonder if the solution is in the below. Either the HSS or the SSS version, with both having the upgraded custom shop fat strat pickups. I remember going to a gig once when in my teens and the lead guitarist was blind. He played a strat which was genuinely road worn, probably as he couldn't see where he was swinging it and putting it down, but that aside, the tones he got sold me on strats forever. American Strat + Marshall valve amp or AC15 is pure win. I would say a messa but ££££ :/

Not sure if Ray just needs something pretty and finished to perfection or a players workhorse.

I just want a guitar with nice tone and looks good, as much as I like a Strat (on paper), i can't get past the headstock.

Saying that, i saw an AMAZING secondhand one in there last month when i was getting my GS Mini. I picked it up and totally loved it.

Ugly headstock aside.
