Would prefer a Saturday, but I'm at Silverstone on the 5th July. Am quite busy in June/July with Le Mans and the German F1 too, so April/May would work better for me.

Id recommend an evening session for a first track day, that's what I did! Plenty of time to go out and not as expensive in fuel/wear/upfront cost either.

Evenings are a great idea ruined by being disproportionatly expensive. £150 for 3 hours when a full 7+ hour day can be had for £200.

Gibbo, is there a "3rd way", I.e. a weekend day that isn't bookatrack? Circuit Days do Donington I think, plus there's bound to be others.

Find some weekend days, Javalins seem to be Mondays, feel free to find some weekend open pit lane dates and I can get them added to the POLL.

^Same

Also been looking at helmets but can't find any for £30 as you mentioned Gibbo. They all seem to be Snell2010 certified, no mention of FIA certified. And all £150+

I assume you didn't mean new helmets then?

will just attend whatever. i do like the evening sessions so not too fussed.

will probably book a full day this year at some point if i have the money available.

I'd love to do an OCUK trackday but I've already got a few booked this year and I'm not sure I can really justify spending another £300. Not saying no for sure yet, but I definitely can't commit right now.

"Technically" you need a Snell certified helmet for car track days, and the cheapest of these will be over £100. Check for ones like Hedtec and V2.

However, I've never seen helmets checked, and most places that hire them at track days don't even meet their own standard requirements. So you can get a cheaper BS certified one, or just a motorbike helmet, which do start at about £30.

There is a whole argument about standards that I don't want to get into here, but I will say that the one thing TDOs do enforce is that you must have a full face helmet to go out in an open top car, so even if you don't have an open car I'd still get full face in case you want a passenger ride in someone else's.

Gibbo, who do the Porsche guys with ~140 grand cars get to insure them on track?

Just found out that Admiral won't cover me and will also from what I could gather they were saying would void my road insurance if they find out I went on a track
So looking to swap insurance company when I get the new car.

Also, is there any track car rental people at Donnington if mine isn't here yet or I can't sort insurance but still want to come and drive on track with you guys!

I am using a specialist insurance company only for Porsche, Aston and TVR. I get unlimited trackday cover per year with a 10% excess on value and it includes European cover. Even better only £700 a year on a car valued at £35,000 :)

They are:-

Or use these for a one off, they are very good and competitive:-

I am at Donnington tomorrow, pop up if you wish and you can go out in the M3 to give you a taster are what you will need to try and keep up with. ;)

P.S. What car you purchased?

Don't get too excited, I haven't bought a Turbo S, or a Porsche :p I did consider it though but personally just not for me, although a Turbo S would have been a great upgrade from the GTR.

Went with the R8 V10 Coupe manual. Spec here in the Audi thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25917274&postcount=1790
Sure not as fast but still fast, though I think it is better than the GTR in every other department.
I did look at a few other cars though, can chat about it next time we meet up.

I will checkout one off insurance as obviously not Porsche, Aston and TVR, any other suggestions for full insurance with track cover would be good.

Don't think I can make Donington tomorrow but I will keep an eye on your car threads for the next one.
