received my r290x, not great performance??

my system is a i5 760 with 8gb of 1866mhz ram, im sending it back because ive paid like 60 pound over what I could've done so I wont accept this. Wonder why I only scored 8500, im getting 30-45fps with everything up at 1920x1080 in metro... I turnt phys x off

I don't know what were you expecting, but we are talking about Metro LL, and when you say "everything up", that's with AA at 4x as well?

Also your CPU is it overclocked? If it's at stock, the chance are it's not helping with the matter either.

Buy a GTX780 or GTX780Ti instead much better choice more consistent FPS in most games plus PhysX is obviously available & drivers are way better than AMD......

Well as you are sending it back anyway then no problem for now but if still an issue with the replacement card we can carry on helping.

As for 3D mark score, I googled for some results and found this:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7713921

This person scored P11999 with the same specs as you - did you leave the 3D mark settings at default when you ran it? Would need a link to your 3d mark result to look into it further

A GTX780 is not gonna help him if it is his CPU holding him back (if the i5 760 is at stock clock, which is more or less only as fast as a Sandy i3 for gaming).

You can't just say stuff like that without any reasoning or comparisons...

780Ti is quite a lot more expensive than the 290x and not necessarily faster in many games. I certainly don't agree with 'more consistent fps in most games'?

In terms of configurable options the drivers are virtually exactly the same...

im not sure if this link wil work but its my score http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2546557

thing is tho the guy who posted saying he got 12000 it says for his score he got 84% better than others, mine says 83%??? also a top end for his is 12000 mine is only 9000

I left it all at normal, the cpu is overclocked to about 3.3-4 ghz

AH ok. Makes sense now, your initial comment said you ran 3D Mark 11 - turns out you are talking about the new 3D Mark. Your score seems fine then :) It would have helped if they called it 3D Mark 13 but it's just called 3D Mark - you can refer to it as 'Fire Strike' to avoid confusion.

Let us know how you get on with the new card when it arrives.

Ahhh great thanks guys!! that's gd to know.... I gonna have to wait til Tuesday I think for the new card but ill be sure to let you all know how it goes, thanks for your help... appreciated

LOL even my system with "Everything on" in metro LL can't keep up 60FPS it's a hugely demanding game (also I could do with an i7 for more threads)

But still I think OP needs to learn how to set up his card/software/games correctly.
You say it's your first AMD card well take a few days to get to grips with it! Before you go making rash choices.

Check your GPU/CPU is running at full speed,Check temps! throttle's happen, Check in GPU-z under the sensor tab what your GPU usage is like (Could be a slight CPU bottleneck),Check CPU usage!!, Try some other games, MAKE SURE PHYSX IS OFF, Run an HDD benchmark to see if your hard drive is a bottleneck.

Try different drivers (the previous version that someone said they used in this thread or the latest AMD beta drivers).

And don't take benchmark scores as gospel to how your GPU is performing.

The Firestrike graphic score looks exactly at where it should be to me.

But for gaming, I'd still strong recommend you'd overclock your CPU...as I said, a stock i5 760 is only around as fast as a Sandy/Ivy i3 CPU on gaming performance, so it will definitely hold the 290x back in games.

I only complained at the start once I put in 8 pins on the atv it hasn't been sluggish. We realise the score was out because of the version, my only reason of complaint was because I havnt received what ive paid for. performance in bf4 is great 80-110fps with everything on ultra

my cpu struggles at anything over 3.5ghz

I had a R290 for a short time, and on the 14.1 drivers it was a different card and not in a good way, 13.2 was much better which was a shame as i was really wanting to test mantle for myself, sent the card back and got a refund as im sure it was faulty too :(

im planning on buying a ssd in next wk, do you think my Samsung 1tb could be a bottleneck?

It wouldn't be a bottleneck per se, but you'll definitely see a vast improvement with an SSD, it's literally one of if not the biggest upgrades you can do for general PC speed

Drivers are not the same at all. Nvidia drivers in general are more stable & offer a more consistent frame rate. Ambient Occlusion also makes a big difference to a lot of games as it greatly enhances the lighting scheme & shadow shader FX plus throw in PhysX in supported games I just think its a better option. However, I still think AMD produce a slightly better image & have done for years but I think Nvidia offer more than enough to make their cards worth sticking with.

I like AMD hardware but their drivers have always been lacking & Nvidia put a lot more resource into theirs (it used to be $10m a year for 250 engineers to work closely with developers to optimise their games for Nvidia GPU's not sure if they still keep as many or spend as much though). Point I am trying to make is that Nvidia GPU's just seem to offer less hassle overall than AMD drivers. That's how Nvidia managed to keep selling their GPU's when the R280/290 series came out but once the GTX780Ti appeared it was obvious what's the best choice ;)

You do realise nvidia have a budget that dwarfs AMD's (old ATI) so this is expected, if anything it highlights AMD have a tougher job competing in that respect.

Secondly last year nvidia were the ones putting about poor drivers, each company goes through the same teething issues they are both as bad as one another in this regard.

It's cheap point scoring, if you have any sense you get what is best with what you can afford, brand loyalty should not influence the decision.
