So I upgraded to windows 8.1 pro about a month ago now and If I touch the socket at the wall or if I plug anything in to the extension cable I get the sound of something being disconnected from the pc. I have even switched my bathroom light on and it's done it hahaha. The pc seems fine there's been no bsod, any crashes, games run fine, the pc is snappy there's no signs off any failure or loss in performance but why it has to tell me if i'm plugging something in to my extension cable or turning a light on I don't know but windows 7 never done this. Any idea's what it could be? Thanks

Sounds like you have discovered yet another bonus Windows 8 feature. Congrats. :D

p.s. If you haven't got one, get yourself a power surge protector and see if that helps with the symptom if not the cause.

hahaha. yeah I have got a big power surge extension cable. I will upload a video tomorrow on youtube. It's strange lol

Ahh yes, that would be the Windows 8 "You did a thing" notification. Perfectly normal. :)

That's a new one to me, very odd. You say it dose the same when you turn the wall light on/off?

yeah, well not all the time with the lights it happened twice the other day when my girlfriend switched the livingroom light on and it did it later on that night when she went into the bathroom. As soon as I move that cable it does it and most of the time if I plug something in. God knows what it is. The extension I have is a power surge and all the lights are light up green which I think means things are all good. This is one thing that puts me off pc gaming is the amount of things that can happen hahaha it really pickles my head to the point when I'm like **** it I'll sell it and stick to next gen consoles.

That would annoy me to tears.

have you tried a different extension cable? Some extension cables can be weird, I used to have one that made my fridge "reboot" but all other devices plugged in to it were fine.

hahahahaha reboot the fridge!!. Yeah I have tried, it's something to do with windows 8.1 one though cause it never did this with windows 7. I have just pretty much cleared all the rubbish of my ssd and hdd and there running very nice. Sometimes my keyboard makes a creeking/pop sound same with the pc sometime I get like a dunk now and again. It's worrying me that it might be the psu giving out bad vibes.

Are you using an av powerline kit ?
Just pondering a possibility that the turning on and off of switches is causing enough of a disturbance to cause the powerline kit to switch off momentarily ? wake on lan ? earth leakage ?
Loose wire in plug and or socket sounds most probable.
Hmmmm ?

Have you tried a different kettle lead for your psi, as it happens when you move cables outside the pc I doubt its the psu but if the kettle lead going in the the psu is slightly damaged or loose it might cause slight surges in power

I wonder if this isn't a case of the good old fashioned earth-loop fault we used to get on old equipment and a break or loose connection is making it show. Definitely try a different lead.

To explain: disconnected earth on the PC causing the PC to earth through a monitor or such. Not impossible for that to trigger the disconnect/detect pnp function.
