Work has ordered me a new Mac Pro (6-Core and Dual GPU), but no monitors. They do not want to spend the money on an Apple Thunderbolt display and have told me to pick something else. I was thinking about 2x Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24" Widescreen LED Slim Bezel Monitors. Just wondering what anyone else would recommend. Have a budget of £500.

I've got the U2713H but never use it now as I couldn't get on with the colours. The gamut is wider on there, and countless hours of playing with the setting just couldn't get me a natural colour in Photoshop. And that affected me quite a bit in what I do.

So I bagged a 27" Thunderbolt Display, and as with my previous iMac, the colours are just perfect for me, never have to fiddle with any settings.

You might get on with the Dell, but mine is just sitting on my desk and was hooked up to my gaming pc (looked fantastic with games), but my gaming pc is downstairs on my 46" Sony LED now, so it's pretty redundant.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with it thou.

So far so good, have forced it into RGB mode over Displayport tom get over the reported ghosting issues with 3rd part monitors on OSX, this also improved the colours to my eye

Happy to hear you are getting on with it!

I will always use my Thunderbolt display as my primary screen, but when my Mac Pro turns up I'm gonna shove the U2713H in as a secondary screen... might as well, otherwise it will just sit there doing nothing. Not sure how often I will use the second screen, but will be good to have it.

You'll be wanting this is using Thunderbolt/Displayport:

Arent the Dell 4k panels only 30Hz though?

Oh really? That sucks.

Edit: Nope, it's 60Hz over DisplayPort 1.2, assuming that's what the Mac Pro has. Just needs support adding to the OS unfortunately.
