very very strange happenings!!

yeah I have tried another extension cable and no difference. Can't really try another socket and if it did work I can't move my unit ect because there's no more room haha. what's a kettle lead? Yeah I might have to get on to my landlord and see if he can get this socket changed on the wall.

It seems like an earth problem, especially if turning on a light switch us causing interference. Do you notice any other electrical items like TV's playing up? Are you getting little static shocks from metal switches?

Edit to add: the easiest way to tell if this is your electrical system or the PC is to plug your system in and test in a friends home.

Nothing like that with static. Everything in the house seems fine the tv and ps3 run fine. Sometimes if I switch the socket on at the pc I get a flash of blue light thats about it really. Thanks for the help guys really appreciate it but not so much with the ghosty people sh*ting me up haha.

A flash of blue light from where! Blue light is electrical arcing, and it's caused by loose connections. Get this fixed mate.

I sometimes get the flash from the main socket where the pc is plugged In to. I will mention it to my landlord whether he gets his finger out thats another story.

Tell him you believe the electrics are unsafe...do you have a electrical safety certificate? If not you can demand one is completed

I think we do. We had an electrician out not that long ago and he mentioned something about getting a new box as the one we had was old but nothing came to it. The flat were in is old so I dont know If its the same old electircs. The socket I use for the pc the elecrical wires come from the attic. So whats the outcome here? Can it damage my stuff?

If you have a decent surge protector you should be ok, its more likley to be the person plugging and unplugging stuff that might be damaged.
If its still got an outdated consumer unit (doesnt meet current safety standards) gather up as much evidence as you can, tell your landlord its not safe and your wont be paying any rent until it is safe. Also ask for an independant electrician, not "one of the landlords mates", one of our old landlords did that with a plumber and an electrician, we got independants to come in after both and they both reported back to the letting agent the landlord was cutting corners with his tradesmen and the house wasnt safe...the letting company witheld the rent and had the work sorted.

Do you rent through a lettings/management company? or is it private?

Pretty similiar to mines he always gets people he knows so it's cheaper for him. It's private. I will email him tonight about the electrics and see what he says. The electrican seems okay because he works for the council but we got our flat roughcasted and the guys done it in the ****ing rain now we have a half bald wall with a load of concrete on the stairs. That was a few days before xmas there. Thanks for the advice everything has been taking on board.

So I upgraded to windows 8.1 pro about a month ago now and If I touch the socket at the wall or if I plug anything in to the extension cable I get the sound of something being disconnected from the pc. I have even switched my bathroom light on and it's done it hahaha. The pc seems fine there's been no bsod, any crashes, games run fine, the pc is snappy there's no signs off any failure or loss in performance but why it has to tell me if i'm plugging something in to my extension cable or turning a light on I don't know but windows 7 never done this. Any idea's what it could be? Thanks

I unfortunately have no valid response to your post but I genuinely laughed out loud while reading it.

My only 2p worth would be about powerline networking kit. Hope you get it sorted.

The kettle lead is basically the power lead coming out of the back of the psu with the plug on the end. I think they are called kettle leads because old kettles used to use the same connection or something. If you have another old pc around the lead from that will most likely fit.
