Hi Guys,

Bit disappointed in how loud my H80i fans are. Beside the fact, they are ugly and looking to replace them with SP120's anyway for the colored ring.

Question is, is the only difference between quiet edition and high performance edition, the top speed?

I'm looking at getting quiet editions because i want a quiet rig, but I can control the speed via corsair link anyways, therefore the noise (will be getting pwm editions). I'm thinking I might as well get the high performance editions and just control fan speeds therefore noise myself - should I ever need the fast RPM I then have it. With the quiet editions, i'm limiting myself.

For any 3pins around my case though (Where i dont have control), I'll defintly be getting quiet editions!

I believe the standard H80i fans are the SP120s high perfomance edition just with different looks and the noise isn't bad once i've set up a custom fan curve to temperature tbh. I think I could live with them. It's just when they are running at mid speed / full rpm they become ridiculously loud. Shame about the looks too!

What do you guys recommened? Quiet or High perfomance editions for H80i?

Personally I'd go with the performance versions & then throttle them back with Corsair Link to make them silent. Worst case it gives you the extra headroom should you need to run the fans at maximum

Exactly what i'm thinking mate. Why get quiet edition pwms when you can control them - was just wondering if my logic was correct and I wasn't missing anything.

The only thing to be mindful of is how slow the fans can go (e.g. I run my Noctua's at 300rpm when the PC is idling), but you shouldn't have a problem with the SP120's

The default fan profiles on Corsair Link are pretty decent, but you can configure your own

Yer i've already setup a custom fan curve mate which RPM rises with CPU temperature. Think at idel they are running around 300-500 can't remember now.

Tbh i find the corsair defaults still quite noisy, even quiet mode you can hear the fans. (Roughly fans run at around 1k RPM on quiet mode).

I have a quiet SP120 in a cupboard and IIRC it's speed range was ~400RPM to 1450RPM. As you don't want the fan to be going as low as 400RPM on a H80i I reckon a high performance would be better choice as with a top end of 2350RPM it's low end should give a great silence factor without being too weak to function.

Yeah for 1400+ rpms they are pretty quiet

I also have some AF120s ( quiets, 1100 rpm) and again...nice and quiet...well until i use three and the front ...then i can hear them lol
