So after my latest round of artifacting with this card ive decided enough is enough , im sending back for refund. Ive tried everything from drivers, to voltages to underclocking... 1 months of this and back for refund it goes.

So i need a new card asap, do i dare go brave and go with the R9-280x again (when it works like it should do its a great card) or do i go for another type of 280x, maybe this saphire version?
Sapphire TOXIC R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 ?

Might up my budget a bit to £300 and get a Asus R9 290 4GB GDDR5 but i hear these cards also have artifact issues.

I need to go amd as just forked out on Tridef and amd hd3d monitor lol...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Stick to reference clocked models, the majority of problems comes from manufacturers selling pre-overclocked cards which are untested. IMO they probably just throw on an overclocked bios and hope to not get too many cards RMA'd, a lot of people aren't aware enough to even notice such problems or just have such good cooling that it doesn't show.

Quote like the look of the Gigabyte, ive heard the asus version get bad artifacts so trying to stay away. Its a bit over my budget but think i will go with the gigabyte :) Thanks man

That's complete bull regarding Asus and artifacts.

Good choice on the Gigabyte card though, enjoy.

Sorry probably me over researching. Just a bit paranoid now thanks to this msi issue.
Now im not sure what to get lol

One more if i may? Is the jump from 280 to 290 significant enough to justify the extra bucks? The giga card got some sweet reviews and benchmarks.. guess im trying to convince myself to get it lol

Absolutely. A 290 will last a lot longer than a 280X, which is two years old. These anand benches show the performance difference between the cards. As the Gigabyte 290 is overclocked it will match stock 290X speeds.

It is worth the extra IMO, I think gains are somewhere from 25-40% depending on game/api.

That windforce is stupidly cheap.

Edit: wtf did I just click matt??? Nice ninja edit, I got the imgur link first!!!

Is there much of a difference in size or colour on the 290/X? (don't answer, it is rhetorical) Paul knows what I am saying :D

Yes you may want to loan it out to a much bigger possibly African American machine.

Dear god that was hard to type while laughing my little man boobs off :D

There are a good few R290 non reference cards for £309 plus now, cheaper than some 280X which are way over inflated in price, just the drivers are a worry for me tho the 14.2 seem to be better than 14.1 lets hope they keep on improving

Got the Gigabyte installed and working perfectly, no artefacts or any issues like i was getting with the 280x. Its a beast of a card , running at full load and barely hitting 70c, its also pretty quiet. Really chuffed so thanks for the recommendation LtMatt :)
