Agreed, what else is a fellow going to buy when a two year old contract ends and all a high end customer has to choose from is the s5 a potentially shoddily built HTC a bezelicious Sony an lg or a usually found to be lacking though vfm Nexus, I'm presuming they aren't apple buyers and haven't got the guts to buy a Note.

Pics can be deceiving.. But in this case.. I don't think so

Im fussy on looks of a phone seeing as I will likely have it 2 yrs plus

It's a phone, who cares what the bloody back looks like? It's in your hand so how it feels in the hand is far more important surely? My S4 feels lovely in the hand, unlike the iPhone which has sharp edges and is generally uncomfortable.
I know I've said this so many times before but I just don;t get it

I understand your point of view but I remember the literal howls of outrage and anger when the s3 arrived, I kid you not read the beggining of the s3 thread but it went on to sell 200 odd million units and still sells now.

As I've already said I won't be buying an s5 so my point of view isn't some juvenile justification exercise just what I perceive to be the reality facing all the s2 or lesser phone owners now.

I voted indifferent.

A surprising amount of people seem to pay a lot of attention to the design, overall. Even people who don't particularly care about phones.

The iPhone for example is almost the default phone for tens of millions of people, yet they almost all like the premium build and nice design (in my experience), even if it's not ergonomically brilliant, the size means it's no great issue.

I personally think the S5 design is pretty 'meh' to say the least, but my problems with it don't really start with the design, as I've said in the S5 thread. I've been pretty surprised by how the design has been received though, hence the thread!

I'm not sure about the back cover, reminds me of those cheap plastic mesh cases for the Galaxy S2.

Well at least it's not a fingerprint magnet like the glossy Galaxy S4....

Just too add too with Robbo said I think it is much more important these days, the hardware on almost all flagships are pretty close or identically. They more or less all use 801, they well all have 2-3gb ram, they well all high good camera, latest version of android and so on. The big difference well be the design, and right now Samsung is well behind everyone else. I doubt it will make a huge difference to sales as they well market that **** to the high heavens, but one can hope at least.

Chrome triple bevelled surround. Bleargh.

Back plate that looks like they peeled it off a Peugeot 206's dashboard. Bleargh.

The Note 3 leather back looks good imo, they should have stuck with that design, the plastic looks so cheap and tacky, and dat shine. Apart from those issues its not terrible, just very boring and flimsy looking like all the Galaxy S range has been.

it's ok. it's a mobile phone though.. so long as it feels nice in the hand (which is where so many aesthetically pleasing phones fail) then the design works imo.

Design is bloody awful and regardless of the design, the phone still looks terrible overall imo, in fact I rather have the HTC one, note III, nexus 5, moto x over the gs 5 any day of the week.

Don't care about plastic, love the one x, lumia phones, moto x, nexus 5

As to what more Samsung could have done, plenty.....

- 32GB as standard
- OIS and keep it at 8MP but give us bigger pixels (AFAIK all they have done is increase the MP count?)
- front facing stereo speakers
- bigger battery
- smaller bezel (instead it has got bigger....)
- much better design/plastic finish
- touchwiz still looks like **** and even more bloated

Can see this phone getting trashed big time in the reviews considering the GS 4 was slated last year by the majority for the same design/material/finish.

But it doesn't matter, Samsung will put millions more into the marketing/advertising and will still sell millions of devices to the average joes, I have been saying it for the last 2 years now, Samsung are the apple of android, now it just extremely obvious.

And lol at some of the comments about htc, sony etc. yeah like Samsung are perfect......

My contract is up in April and all the phones this year look meh for one reason or another (Z2 looks really good but not putting up with their slow updates and have them release a new version 4-6 months later...) so think I'll just go with the nexus 5 or possibly even the moto X (if it comes with 32GB and is super cheap)

Since getting the nexus 7 2013, I don't use my phone anywhere as much so don't really need a super good big screen, just something that has good battery life, great camera and performs well with superb software/support.

Hi Nexus, I thought you'd be a big fan of the S5... :p

I think the Nexus 5 sounds ideal for you, or indeed the Moto X!

Yeah since getting the nexus 7 and using kit kat, I absolutely love stock android, just wish the camera app was more like the sense camera app.

Love the nexus 5, the design and feel/build is amazing, prefer it to the majority of phones, it would be even better if it had SAMOLED screen and a slightly better camera overall.

Moto X is amazing overall as well, the lack of bezel etc.

Will just come down to price and tariff deal in the end.

I want a new Android phone so I'm trying to pick one as well, need to try them all out. I like the look of the Z2 but like you I don't trust Sony and I don't think it'll be too amazing. Not sure whether to wait for HTC's announcement first. So it's really between the Note 3, new HTC One and Nexus 5 most likely, the Note 3 seems pretty awesome.

If I didn't have the nexus 7 2013, I would be picking up the note III, very nice handset (except for that terrible thing called touchwiz)

They said at the event that the sensor is larger than the s4's.

Ah kk!

No doubt it will be better than the gs 4 camera although I hope in the areas where it really matters (at least to me) i.e. with the gs 4, you have to be very steady otherwise most shots came out blurry and it was pretty crappy in low light conditions, very low FOV and a few other things which annoyed me.

@ Nexus yup the s4 camera was a massive disappointment to me especially as it was the main reason for my move from the n4, that and lte which here we are in March, effectively, and today I got my 1st 4g at a dl of 4mbs.:(

More bloated? A simple look at most articles about the S5 would tell you the complete opposite.

I'm not a Samsung fan by any means, but they certainly should be given credit for cutting down on the bloat compared to the S4.

The Rom is 8gb, it looks cleaner and more mature but that doesn't mean it has less bloat. Things like the new fitness app are sure to take up a big chunk of memory and resources.

Call me wrong if you want, but for the price it will be and the spec sheet it has, is it really worth the price over a nexus 5? Its not particularly pretty, nor is it ground breaking in its specs. I'm more bothered about function over form, but it just doesn't seem to be worth whatever daft asking price Samsung will slap in it.

i also am looking for a new phone and not one phone out grabs me, the LGs appeal most!
