Love USB, do not love cables or usb drive sticking out the front of my dash.
My old Pioneer has a rear input, but looking to upgrade, anyone know current headunits with a rear usb inputs?

Possibly Bluetooth for phone integration and how well that stuff works?

I wanted the same thing for my car, I absolutely hate front aux/usb inputs!

I ended up buying this: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units/cd-players/kenwood-kdc-bt92sd

Obviously because it has rear USB, but bluetooth was a plus as well as a nice display. My old Alpine headunit could only display half of most song names it was highly annoying!

The bluetooth is great though, phonebook comes up on the display and it's very clear.

Answer the call either with the phone button on the right of the unit or via your steering controls if you have them.

Make a call either manually using the phone book on the head unit, by looking up made/received calls from the head unit or engaging voice dialling via it ( or again phone button on your wheel)

Audio comes through your front speakers

I have one of these.

Does everything that a single DIN can really(not the only one that does mind you!). There are a couple of models down if you don't want everything on it.

It has the Bluetooth (which I have found to work very well with my Android phone but your mileage may vary) and Rear USB input you're looking for at the very least, and a fair few other bells and whistles. It's nice in that you can change the colours to suit your cars dash lighting scheme as well. Nice if you don't want it to look too out of place, which is relevant to some.

Wow, not an easy task at all. The Kenwoods look kind of good, but then half of them with rear USB only have 1 PreOut, so won't work with the bluetooth switching through the fronts speakers only (I run my front speakers+sub from the rear an amp connected to the RCA output)

The Pioneer looks nice, but $$$ :(

I ran a USB extension to my centre console and backlit it with a white LED to make it easier to find :)

As stated above, if you receive a call it will ring though your speakers, press a button to answer and the call audio is through your speakers (you can set it to front only or all), then the mic is external so can be placed anywhere. I put mine up top of the a-pillar trim :)

Edit: Just seen your reply. Mine has 3 pre-outs which is ideal as my front speakers are amped and I run a sub also. The display is fully change-able with RGB colours too. It has a lot of functions really. Having an SD card slot is handy too as I have a few of them laying about now, it's easier to throw a few new songs on that than update my ipod or whatever.

Thanks for that, good to know those options should be switchable, the USA get loads more options (and cheaper!) for headunits than us, I'm jealous :(

I run a single RCA into my 4channel Alpine and let the Amps crossovers cut between front comps and sub. So only really need one RCA output, but it has to be full range. And of course have the option of phone going over it too (as you said yours does)

Might just keep saving the pounds and go for one of the far fancier units later.

Yip, that looks like the one I have.

No way would I have paid that for it though. I can't imagine I'd have paid even close to £200 for a HU! Can't remember though.

It's a great HU though, it also displays in amber too rather than blue/white etc.

Ahh the one I have is discountinued. This one seems similar to the above, but cheaper if you're on a budget edit - scrap that no bluetooth!

It does look nice!
I like another Pioneer one, thought bargain at about £90-99 but it doesn't have a Cd player!

Then they jump to about £150 for a Pioneer or there is a Sony at £99 that ticks the boxes...

I'll wait till I can spend more and not worry about it!

I've had a few Sony headphones in the past, when buying a car. They didn't last long before getting replaced with a Kenwood or a Pioneer.

I've had my Pioneer DEH-X6500DAB for just over a year, think I bought it last January. It now fails to read any usb device, brilliant :(

As I posted in another thread recently:

I have an Alpine IDE-178BT and I love it. It's excellent and comes with pretty much every feature and connectivity option you'd need from a single-DIN unit as well as offering excellent sound quality. I upgraded from my older IDA-X305 and haven't looked back. The Bluetooth streaming is brilliant. The price is very good for the functionality on offer.

Link.

The green illumination (you can select the colour) matches my car's dashboard illumination perfectly too!
