Will riding a moped at 16 help with insurance?

The older urchin is about to turn 16, and I'm wondering if him getting a moped (with the training) will affect his insurance quotes next year, when he will be wanting his first car.

Any insights?

Is no claims on insurance for a moped transferable to car insurance?

When I bought a motorbike, my car insurance NCB wasn't transferable to the bike.

If he becomes another 16yo moped riding statistic then insurance will a negligible cost in the future

Its bad enough when kids start to drive, but your life expectancy on a moped must be actually zero

 live a little. Mopeds are fun at 16!

If I died on my bike, I'd die happy. I'd rather get killed on my Hornet than in a cheap nasty boring car.

Direct line accepted my 1 years NCB from another insurer when i had had a moped for year at 16. This was a while ago, so things may have changed since.

They don't go much faster than a bicycle, but give a bit of independence without the crazy insurance of cars. Europeans seem to embrace them as a form of transport but people here just see kids on mopeds as chavs. I guess like the pimped up corsas with drainpipe exhausts you only notice the annoying ones, but everyone was young once!

My Daugter last year change from moped to car and the ncb was not allowed to be moved to a car, But she got her insurance down by nearly half by having one of them tracker/monitoring boxes fitted.

I never got my brothers moped passed about 37-38. My bicycle went 45 the other day :p

They don't go much faster and a pedal bike but you're interacting with cars and lorrys at such a young/inexperienced age.

I'm all for organ donors but it's not the dying that would worry me but being left a cripple.
