Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new graphics card and i have two different cards i have my eye on.

My system specs are as follows,

[email protected]
8gig Ram
Gigabyte Z77 m-atx motherboard
Corsair TX650 PSU.

The cards i'm looking at are the

Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (C78V-1SDN-L5HSX)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-014-IN

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-40G)

I'm really undecided on which one to go for. I know the 290 is cheaper by £30, has mantle coming in the future and is the same if not faster than the 780 but i've been reading about the issues with the black screen and dodgy ram and are the drivers as solid as Nvidia's? I've not had a Radeon since the 9800SE days!

I'm coming from a GTX660 SLI setup and i never had any problems with it regarding drivers etc. Plus some of the features were great like the GeForce experience and Shadowplay.

In my situation which one would you choose?

I know this has probably been asked loads but i'd really like some help deciding :-)

Thanks

The 780, better the devil you know tbph, while maintaining features you use.

The ichill is using an AC Extreme cooler btw, better than any other AIB cooler too.

The 290X GE is a faster gpu overall but I don't think it's perceivable much if at all out with BF4/Mantle in real world scenarios on the presumption your using 1080p, although with the games package it's very good for the price.

I'm using a 290X, the AMD drivers are solid btw.;)

Sorry I forgot to mention resolution I game at is 1900x1200. Although with all the new monitors on the horizon that may change.

Either card are good. Also bear in mind that the Inno card is massive and takes up 3 slots. (In case you decide you want to sli/xfire down the line)

I sold my 780ti to down grade as i wont be gaming that much in the next 6 months so wanted to cash in and get back what i could before the 880's are released, in the mean time the plan was to get a R270X or R280X and try mantle, in the mean time there were a few good offers floating around on the R290 making them cheaper than some R280X so i bit the bullet and bought one, sadly the 14.1 drivers was a nightmare, would not let me play BF4 in mantle for more than 5 seconds tops, then i could not go back to DX either so had to revert back to 13.2, these work fine tho the card i had kept addin 50Mv to the volts which made it run hotter and louder than i liked, once reset tho it was decent card, faster in all benchmarks than my stock 780 is and by a fair bit to in some benches, if i knew that the 14.2 driver were coming i would have kept it, sadly i sent it back the day before there were released due to the drivers and the possible fault with the card, the 2 x 660 i would think would be faster than either card, and if your gaming at 1080P then should be good for Vram too, my advice would be wait until the faster 800 series cards are out and hopefully you can get something thats both faster and more efficient than your all three setups, if you cant wait try and get the R290 for around £300 to £340 for a non reference card, the factory overclocked 780 that are around the same price as some R290 then nothing much between them really, id be happy with either for sure as long as AMD driver keep improving, 14.2 are supposed to be much improved so i keep reading

I've got the 780 iChill and its been great, just plug in and play with no issues.

I was torn between it and a 290 when looking to buy but after reading about some issues with them on the forums decided to stick with Nvidia.

It clocks even further easily enough but I am running it stock at the moment and doesn't seem to have a problem maxing out my games at 1920x1080.
