Hello!

First off, I am exaggerating quite a bit. Its nothing like a hoover... but it does get pretty loud.

When its not in full use, but turned on with say the music going or a film, it gives out a slight hum. Certainly noticeable but not unbearable... couldn't sleep with the PC on mind. When I play a game on it, like Titanfall (beta was awesome huh?!) it sounds like its going to take off and if I place my hand over the top of the case where there is a grill, I can feel quite a bit of temperature there.

Cooling wise, it has a stock CPU cooler on its 4770 and just 2 of the fans that came with the case... I don't have any experience with air flow so I placed one at the pack pulling air out of the case and another on the top, doing the same. I assumed that this is okay as the air will be pulled in from the front of the case as there are some vent holes.

Is this what's causing the temps to get high, which then make the fans go into OVER 9000 mode? Or do I need more fans? If so what are some decent, price friendly ones? Or do I need a CPU cooler? I kind of get the feeling that its the GPU that is getting hot not the CPU... but I'm not sure.

Any help would be grand!

It'll be the card that's making a racket and providing the heat at the top which is pretty normal.

I doubt that there's much you can do about it tbh. Sure, you could improve airflow in the case, but the gpu fans will still ramp up when gaming and may just simply be louder than you personally like when idle.

Have you tried making a custom fan profile with MSI afterburner?

I've had a play with MSI before and am sure I can give it a go.

Just odd, as on my other PC the heat never got that bad at all. It was a larger case though, so it might be down to that.

Can I ask what kind of GPU and CPU temps should be expected? Going to run a few benchmarks to see what numbers I get.

EDIT: As for where I should place the fans, one is directly above where the GPU fans are... pulling the air out of the case, should that be so?
 
Not sure what 760 phantom's should be hitting tbh. Probably easier to just run a few benchies and let us know what you're seeing :)

Btw, is that a 4770K or the non-K? Is it overclocked at all?
 
Well, I started with a Heaven test for the GPU. Didn't leave it running very long but got 68 C. Not much extra noise but was just a little bit of heat that I could feel.

Next I ran "Heavy Load" for the CPU ... and believe that we have found the culprit. I'm getting 90-100 C on all 4 cores! I've not left it to run long at all, but the noise went right up and the temps started to get slightly toasty on the top grill.

Looked inside and the fans are all working.. so is this a thermal paste thing? Looking at the temps now with no load and they are sitting at 40-50 C, defiantly not right.

Is there stock cooler definitely fully seated? The mounting mechanism on it is, quite frankly, awful. Check you can see both the white-clear "teeth" and the black pin fully through the middle on the back of all 4 holes on the motherboard.

If they are, then it could well be the paste, so try re-seating the cooler completely.
 
Okay thanks for the help! The cooler seems like its all mounted correctly checking for what you suggested. Since its going to be a re-paste, wondering how much I need to spend £££ wise in order to get something slightly better than what the stock cooler is like.

Would something like this be better, along side some decent thermal paste?

If you can fit it in your case, I'd probably recommend a larger CPU cooler though, something that you can fit a couple of Corsair SP120's on maybe. (more surface area = more cooling) :D
