I am too skint right now, but it's on the cards, I will learn the guitar no matter what.

And no to the amps...my neighbours would not be happy lol

Humbuckers on tele is the only thing that makes sense. You can get single coil sound from humbucker by splitting coil via pull/push volume knob. Done. But you can't fatten single coil to hum free, full and beefy humbucker sound. You can cheat by pairing two single coils in switch mid position for a louder signal, but that doesn't make them noiseless, reverse polarity or change the sound characteristics of two coils 10cm apart playing together. It's not even aesthetics issue, as you can have humbuckers that look like single coils. In this day and age there is no reason to have single coils on Fenders at all.

What a load of nonsense. The whole point of the tele is the vibe...And the tradition. Just like the 54 tele Beck uses.

That's not how it is at all. Strat is for those who want bright, twangy, sparkly sound. Tele is for those who want even weedier, brighter sound and don't care about versatility.

I can assure you my Tele is not weedier than my USA deluxe strat... It really cuts through...

Have you heard a Hendrix record?

Gibson is for those who want fat, growling sound.

More BS....Ever heard a BB king record?

Ibanez and superstrats are for those who want the latter to be even louder, tighter and faster. PRS is all all three worlds for those who want boutique finish and upmarket touch and are willing to pay much more than its worth for it.

Fret bankers? I agree....

If guitars were cars Strat player would turn up in Mondeo. Tele player would arrive in Connect mini van. Gibson player would turn up in BMW 5 series. Superstrat player would arrive in Nissan GTR. PRS guy would park his Aston Martin two parking spaces away so no one opens doors into their ride. Superstrat/Nissan GTR guy would comment how his ride is much faster to 30mph, quoting few lofty milisecond stats of in gear acceleration, Gibson/BMW owner would mention how his toy is better drivers car for everyday use, with best engine, most options and balance of affordable luxury to price, Strat/Mondeo guy would comment how his ride is the best selling, loved by all, universally appealing budget family car with big boot while Tele/Connect fellow would offer irrelevant off-the-cuff remark how he's the only one that can fit 5 bales of hay and still have space for two sheep in the back of his vehicle.

And they'd be all looking at the Aston Martin, and deep inside know, that even though it doesn't have as much leg space as the Mondeo, isn't as good all around car as BMW, doesn't launch from lights as fast as GTR and you will never even attempt to transport sheep in it, if only money was no object... Then quickly dismiss the thought as "looking too douche-y".

You have been watching far to much topgear...You sound like Jeremy Clarkson. I have never read so much BS on ocuk before about guitars..

I have a BMW and I have a Deluxe Strat, A Collectors edition Tele based on a 54....A Gibson LP

I knew Ray would get a PRS...what a massive disappointment...But oh so predictable.

But each to their own I guess.....

I'm so glad I got good on a Hohner :p

I avoided becoming a ****

Not the Jeff Beck finger print edition ? Lol

And nothing wrong with a PRS, I dunno why you hate it tbh. It sounds great and it looks awesome.

The Blue Metallic Tele I posted gave way to the collectors edition.

Gibson SG (single coil sold)
Gibson LP Zebrawood
Fender Deluxe USA Strat
Fender Collectors Edition 1998 Tele
Martin OM-18V

I also have a Martin D-15M and a 1972 Fender Musicmaster Bass.

As for PRS The people I have met who play them just come across as *****

And the birds on the Fingerboard are pretentious nonsense. But thats just my opinion.

Oh are the basses coming out now too? :)

I've got an really nice silver OLP Stingray (I guess OLP are the Squier of Musicman) will post a pic when I have a spare moment

The only guitars I have are the Korean Epiphone LP I posted a few pages ago and a Jackson Dinky in a sort of trans-black flametop, EMGs + the EMG afterburner. Quite a nice guitar but I kinda want to get rid of it as I find the Floyd-rose a complete pain in the backside... Unfortunately the headstock got snapped clean in two many years ago - it's repaired nicely using a metal plate attached to the back, but it's pretty much totally devalued it - may as well be completely unsellable :(

You are mixing up everything or not reading things through. The whole point of the tele is its clean, bright, sharp sound. That's why they mount single coil on bridge mounting plate, to add that microphonic quality and that's why they use lipstick single coil in neck position. It's not about some "vibe", or whatever "tradition" means, it's not even the brokeback mountain looks, its sole purpose is to be more twangy, brighter, jangly. Pickups are wired with more turns, they have higher ohm readings, to be dryer, sharper, where strats by design are supposed to have fuller, rounder, harmonically reacher sound.
Can Tele be hot rodded? Sure. All the way to 11. Can you mod it to play metal? Of course, even boys at Slipknot have Teles in their arsenal. Is that the purpose of the original pickups and construction characteristics? No. Is adding humbuckers with split coil wiring the best way to retain original tele sound and add more beef in extra switch positions? Hell yes. Schecter got it 100% right. Split coil on, it's just your regular Nashville. Flick the switch. Full humbucker. Unleash the rage. Don't take it from me. Just ask Pete Townshend. He switched to Schecter hambucker combo in 1979.

You have a doubt that strat is designed to be less weedy, bright and sharp than Tele? Three position selector on Tele vs five position selector on strat. You have a strat. Have you noticed anything about position 2 and 4 on your strat? Do you know what we, old timers used to do when older, cheaper second hand strats from seventies still had three position selectors? We used to jam the selector inbetween positions with a piece of paper. Everyone did. Small players and big. Hendrix was one of the first ones to mod his strats with 5 way selector, although not in the way those ready made selectors with five positions work now - he actually had to knock and jiggle his selector into position. All for that "out of circuit" hum free, fuller, beefier sound. As if to - buck the hum - if you will. One could almost coin a phrase or technical term on the back of it. ;)

Hendrix used Strats on his records. What was your point about tele?

(about Gibson) More BS....Ever heard a BB king record?

You are referring to RPM era, but there is a reason why BB king switched to Gibson ES-355, and although it is not the same as Les Paul, never the less, you don't think BB's later tone, with Gibson Lucille, is full and growling?

I have never read so much BS on ocuk before about guitars..

Well look, you think my posts discussing history, construction and sometimes OCD details of gear are BS and you want to conclude I know nothing about guitars. That's fine. Don't mind me, shine on, do your thing. You don't mind if the rest of us keep on posting among ourselves, do you?

I have a BMW and I have a Deluxe Strat, A Collectors edition Tele based on a 54....A Gibson LP

Way to miss the figurative example. Oh, and <borat_thumbs_up.jpg> nice! :D

As for PRS The people I have met who play them just come across as *****

Because the world is just that black and white every time?
