My partner wants a car, im insisting she saves some money or I lend her some and she spends £10k on a decent 07/08ish Golf GTi thats done 60k miles or something.

She how ever wants to look at poverty spec rubbish like the below.

I seem to have developed tunnel vision on the Gold GTi and cannot think of anything that I would want that she would be interested in as well.

Out of the four I would have the Mini and the Polo for POWWWWAAAA alone. The BMW is something you buy just because it has a BMW badge. And aren't those Mercs known for rusting around you? Or was that earlier ones?

Get her the Mini if she doesn't want a Golf. It'll be fun to drive when you grab the keys, too.

I do enjoy the Mini, but its too much of a fun sporty car when we already have a 2 seater, plus they are notoriously unreliable and not actually all that powerful, maybe if she really wanted a Mini I would take her down the JCW route or something...

and not actually all that powerful

Out of the 4 you posted in the OP, it is the most powerful. The problem with something like the Lexus is its size. My girlfriend doesn't like driving my C-Max because it's too big. She is happiest in a Fiesta or some type of city car (hence our leaky Aygo).

I don't see what the problem is, those cars look okay.

I have been ask to help 2 other ladies recently, one of which was family, they both ended up making awful decisions, I am determined for this not to happen again as it actually affects me this time round.

She could be getting something like that imo, hatchback of the year for a good reason, and way more practical and comfortable than the others posted.

Find her the best example of what she wants.

If you convince her to buy something else it'll be your fault when it gets a puncture or runs out of washer fluid.

Isn't that 2k over budget?

Nvm I've reread the OP.

TBH though I'm with maccapacca get her what she wants, it's her car, if it's rubbish she'll be the one driving it mostly

Does she have any interest in a Golf GTI?

If you don't 'get' the golf thing i can understand her being underwhelmed by it and fancying one of the others you linked in the begining

All of the corporate ladies I work with have either 1series or minis.

Why are you tying to force a car on her? I won't end well. Easier to let her have what she wants.

Thats the thing, she does like the Golf GTi, she just doesn't want to spend the money, its £6k vs at least £8k. I just know in 3 years time she will want to change... and that'll cost, where as if she spent the money now, she could be happy for 5 years at the least. Buy cheap buy twice.

I've got no problems with the Mini if its what she really wanted, but its not :(

(and 1 series sucks)

Then buy her a 6k Golf GTI? There are plenty of great examples around for 6k. The one you linked looks a little overpriced actually.

Stop being lazy and get out there and look.

You also have the A3 3.2 Quattro and Gen 1 Audi TT 225/3.2 as well. They offer a different level of performance to what you suggested and still have a premium badge.

You seem to be set on a golf gti. Some of the other cars are perfectly reasonable.

TBH she will probably want to change any of the cars be it golf or otherwise in three years time. God im lucky if a car last me a year and a half before im bored of it lol.

IMO the golf is not worth the extra money unless she really fell in love with it. Its also important that she feels happy with the car she buys not that its something your happy with if she is going to be driving it most of the time.

I don't want to live my life this way. :(:(

My advice...grow a pair and let her have what she wants. Are you allowed to buy what you want? No imagine if she started going on about it and tried making you buy something else.

You can't force something on her because it's something you'd rather drive. All you can do is find the best example of what she wants for the money she wants to spend. End of.

Appreciate you taking the time and all but that's got 80k on it, been fettled with, and doesn't appear to have fsh. I don't really want to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. £6k can get one, but not a decent one. I've seen £10k examples come with a main dealer warranty still on it.
