The threads really just a heads up in case someone else has an old account with their bank details still attached and if that's the case it would be a good idea to change the password and remove the card details. It might even be an idea to change the password to your PSN accounts anyway regardless.

I've no idea how it's happened, but while searching for contact details for Sony support I came across an article saying that Sony had again been hit for user account details http://www.ibtimes.com/psn-security-breach-sony-resets-playstation-network-passwords-ps4-ps3-1486504 (Yes it was 3 months ago, but I'm only just learning of it now). That's really the only thing I can put it down to, though I'd love to know why I never received an email letting me know this breach of their security had taken place and why my password wasn't automatically reset.

I can't contact Sony until 10am tomorrow and my bank wants nothing to do with it until the money actually leaves the account, since they can't do anything with pending transactions apparently...

All I can really do is change the password and remove the card and I hope it's not going to be an uphill battle trying to get the money back from them, with them blaming me for losing access to the account when I haven't used it for over 6-8 months and if I get my bank to do something about it Sony will ban the account.

Showing up as 4600 Fifa points in the email I got, but I neither like nor own the game so no it wasn't me :p It's weird timing though considering I only put just enough money in the account Friday afternoon to pay a bill and 5am the next day is when the money was added to the wallet and a further 5 hours after that the Fifa points were purchased.

Pretty sure there was a recent spate of password resets actually (basically couldnt get into PSN, no emails were sent IIRC) - looking at that article nothing actually says anything was breached on PSN. Though you arent the first thread this week mentioning having money stolen as FIFA points to my recollection...

Absolutely disgusting, stealing something from a shop worth that amount would land you in court, and if done more than once a short stay in prison.

You're right, I never noticed the question mark in the article title. But other then Sony losing the details I've not got a clue what it could be considering I haven't touched the PS3 for months and I've never entered the account details into anything other than the PS3. The old password wasn't weak either using upper/lowercase letters, numbers and punctuation marks.

I wouldnt like to speculate, shame its happened on weekend and good luck with Sony though I wouldnt be surprised in a drawn out resolution Im afraid.

I'm not expecting it to be easy, which honestly I shouldn't have to fight for something which is mine in the first place. Hopefully they can see that I have never even played FIFA on this account/console and they will be able to see that the purchase wasn't even made from my IP address.

If Sony won't help I'll just get my bank to dispute the transaction and they will likely ban my PSN account, but I'll at least have my money back.

40 minutes on hold later and it's hopefully sorted, now I just need to wait a few days for their investigation to finish and I should hopefully get my money back. Apparently they used the PSN website to add funds to my PSN wallet using my attached card and then used my account on their console to buy FIFA points, the website part of the transaction they cannot track (god knows why), but thankfully since they used their console with my account to download the FIFA packs they can track the serial number on it so they will clearly see it wasn't my console that was used.

If you do try and get the money back, then sony will just ban your PSN account since you owe them the money no ifs, ands or buts (and the fault for this problem lies with EA as from what I've heard, it's their system that has a gaping flaw in it).

I had this happen to me with my PayPal account, some scumbag bought about £125 worth of FIFA points for XBL - and I don't even have an Xbox or FIFA. Called PayPal and they locked down my account and issued a refund within 24hrs, my bank were helpful but they weren't fast enough (like op I had to wait until the money actually left my account). Added my PayPal account to Lastpass so it'll be pretty tough to get in now.

this is why you never have cards or paypal linked to PSN or XBL, its safer and cheaper to just use voucher codes, as often these are a couple quid cheaper than the value

Was your PSN passsword unique or did you use it for other accounts too?

For what its worth I had this happened some time ago and Sony were quick to resolve and refund the money.

exacltly the same happened to me 2weeks ago altho sony wouldnt do anything other than tell.me if i goto the police the would have too cancel my account as if i get the funds back it put my acc into negative funds so they cancel it.....so much for a years psn...

i cancelled my card and my banks contacting the police for me, and i did get the fund back

also£30 for fifa points. ...i dont even own fifa too

your lucky you don't own or play fifa, plenty of people try and hack fifa accounts to steal coins and players.

there's been tons of guys on here that have been hacked and had hundreds of pounds worth of stuff stolen.

I had the same happen to me on boxing day had £30 stolen from me on FIFA points again phoned the bank up and cancelled my card and got my money back. Not thinking any more of it forgot about it turned my playstation on to add my PS plus games for this month and my account is blocked. I phoned sony about it they was saying it was my fault don't know how when i don't even own FIFA have to wait for them to get back to me now to see what happens next. I dont want to lose my account as i have spent hundreds of pounds on it over the years i bet i will end up paying them the £30 i had stolen from me i don't think fair i should have to pay it as it my money.

they take your details - username and password and type them into their console. they then load up their fifa disc and purchase points through your PSN account which is set to auto fund by your credit card.

point is how did they get your details? did they hack you or sony to get them. chances are it was sony (remember the fiasco when they were hacked and details leaked online?).

the only way to prevent is never to have any credit in your PSN Wallet and never have your credit card details stored on your PSN account. i have since deleted my card off my account (credit is cheaper to buy online anyway).

currently i have over £30 sitting in my wallet, so if i was hacked they could use it. there is nothing i want to spend that £30 on.

so again it's not foolproof even if you do take all precautions about deleting cards, etc.
