Remaps, worth it??

I researched it and the damage it could cause was massive. If you can uprate the clutch injectors and fit a single mass flywheel I think it was fine. Add on a SS exhaust too. Lot of work for that car really, might as well just start with something fast in the first place.

I concur. I probably wouldn't, not with the reputation the TDCI Mondeos have.

Well, would a larger intercooler/decat be worth it? I've read that a decat makes the most noticeable difference with the turbo spooling quicker, and the intercooler holding boost for longer. It would cost less then the remap and improve the drivability.

A new change to the mot rules in February does mean that a diesel needs to have a cat convertor present to pass the mot.

I would just leave it, it is a daily and sounds like a bangernomic car so why spend cash mapping it?

If the ECU can be tweaked I'd rather have a proper custom map installed - this is more important if you have added any other modifications to the car.

Else, I'd happily go with a plug and play thing - but a lot of them from what I've heard (I may be wrong) just change the fuel map to be more aggressive which in diesels can I believe shorten the time between servicing.

Turbo cars in general do benefit well from a remap/tune.

No one is denying that a better intercooler and larger turbo and higher flow injectors and a remap and this and that and t'other will make the engine more powerful but you're only going to break other things quicker. :p

If you're happy to accept the fact that your clutch, injectors, fuel pump, and DMF may well fail far sooner should you re-map it, then go for it.

Pointless. It'll fail an MOT!

Personally I'd leave it alone as it sounds like you want to change your car in the not-too-distant future anyway.

I don't think I'll change for another year or so. It's been pretty reliable so far so I rather not take the risk. Gut feeling always tends to be right.

With the decat, if it's not present at MOT it will fail now. I could always find a friendly mot tester. ;) It's meant to improve the turbo spool. I can't see that harming the engine in anyway.

I thought about getting my Civic 2.2 done, but then I like having a clutch.

Keep it as it is, why 'fix' when it ain't broke. It's a Mondeo diesel designed for economy, if you want more oomph get that Type R ;)

It depends on the car, I wouldn't ever consider remapping my Boxster. But have remapped a car in the past and will probably get my partners car remapped this year.

When looking to buy cars I factor in if they can be remapped and what sort of gains you get as the cost is so minimal compared to the purchase price and they can often make big differences (example 335i can be remapped for a few hundred quid and give you an extra 50+bhp).

Same ;)

OP - I had my EGR valve cleaned yesterday, car has done 40k but it was really rather caked up. It's made a massive difference to the way the car drives. May be worth you getting that looked at, if it's stuck or slow to respond it may cause your car to feel lacking.

If it's "not putting out what it should" there is something wrong with it.
Remapping is not something I'd be attempting until fixing whatever is making it slower than normal!

But in essence, turbo car, petrol or diesel = worth mapping.
Bang to buck ratio on anything else makes it a bit pointless.

Get a proper remap and not just a tuning box though.
