World War 2 metal piece I.D.

google suggests it's a golf course

It's probably part of a tank or something he took as a souvenir

Might it be something that is removed from a piece of machinery to render it useless if it fell into enemy hands?

Spent most of the war in the middle east then moved to Italy in '44. They got Vickers (I think) light tanks around 1938, then switched to Shermans a few years later. Not sure if this is of relevance to the part or just pointless trivia though.

14/20th had a funny war really, they spent most of it having a quiet one as a garrison force guarding the Iraq/Iran oil fields. The war really started for them in '44 when they were thrown in at the deep end in Italy to make good the losses that Commonwealth forces were suffering there due to the attritional nature of the Italian theatre.

Interestingly it was the 14/20th that supplied crews to drive the 2/6 Ghurkha Rifles' Kangaroos for their attack on Medicina in April '45 and led to the 14/20th being given permission to wear crossed Kukri's on their sleeves.

I remember seeing the 14/20th in Germany in the 80's in Chieftains in and around Hohne.

It's for cleaning the inside of a barrel. No idea what weapon system however. Would have more attachments ie stiff brush and a longer piece known as the rod to attach to
