Income Support etc

Maybe didn't qualify for contribution based JSA? I'm assuming the OP's partner gets 6 months contribution based but doesn't qualify for income based after that :S

Yah talking income based.

The rule arbitrarily applies for couples(combined):
must usually work less than 24 hours a week (on average)

Which according to our government overlords means a couple are expected to support each other on £7269.12 per year combined. AHAHAHHAHAHahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahahAHAHAHahahahhahaha *has a stress stroke and dies*

Everyone is entitled to 6 months NON means tested job seekers, after that period it is then means tested which means if you live with someone who has a paid job thenusually you wont be entitled anything (even if you have paid taxes most of your life)

We found trying to get information out of people to what help we could get was very difficult and still to this day no one at the job centre will tell us. It seems to be a constant fight to get anything, even advice which is supposed to be free lol

I definitely didn't get told that. My initial interview was with a typically moronic public sector worker, and in the end I got chucked out of the job centre for questioning the worldy wisdom of not being entitled to JSA when my wife cleans human excrement for a living supporting adults with severe learning disabilities. Apparently, you can't say the words human excrement in a job centre.

OP I don't think working tax credit applies as you are over the income threshold, but hey, at least your over the arbitrary, no-reason-given-other-than-****-you over 25 year age limit.

It is strange how the government is PRO marriage but when it comes to it you would benefit more being single and living on your own as you would then be both entitled to help. More so if she is a single mum lol

Is she entitled to anything from housing benefits?

exactly why my girlfriend would never let me come to the job centre with her, she used to come back in tears at the way they spoke to her. Needless to say i wasnt happy

Exactly the same. The day they made her cry I walked away and never looked back. Luckily we had parental support or we would have been totally screwed.

I wonder how many people out there there are who are entitled to claim but don't, because of the stress, aggravation and plain old retardation involved. I bet you my top hat its equal to or greater than the amount lost in fraud.

I know it's not a lot of help at the moment but it's almost guaranteed she'll end up working well in excess of her 12 hour contract in retail, my sister had something daft like an 8 hour contract at one point but was happily pulling in at least 30 hours most weeks.

For the last 4 years I have been an IT Support Engineer, I have a MCP in Windows 7 and HNC in Computing. I'm not the most gifted IT Person in the world but I know enough to have a basic IT Job or any Administrator job that involves a Computer.

Back in August 2013 the helpdesk I worked on got merged with other helpdesks and moved from Edinburgh to Newcastle. So ever since I've been looking for work.

I have applied for over 350 Jobs, this ranges from IT Support to Admin, Data Entry, Working in Asda/Tesco, (basically applied for every job I can do)

Only got 4 Interviews (All were IT Support) due to the extremely insane competitive market there was always someone better despite my Interviews going well.

My problem is I have a Mortgage. (This means I do not qualify for housing benefit.) So all my savings from the Bank all went towards paying the mortgage (ran out now :(), I did get a mortgage discount after 3 months but it's still not enough to survive, If it wasnt for my dad helping out with £200 / £300 a month I would be homeless and completely screwed!

Some of my friends are in a even worse position than me I am just incredibly lucky I don't have a family to support.

Times are tough in the Job Market in Edinburgh, It amazes me how I can't even get a job in Data Entry despite having more IT and Admin Experience than the average person

Just home from an Interview for a 20k year job in Livingston It went well so hopefully I can escape my nightmare situation I'm in!

so I completely understand your girlfriends situation as I'm living it right now :(

I really feel for you and it makes me so angry that people who have worked and paid taxes for years and yet when they actually need help they are the ones who recieve nothing. Another thing that makes me mad is that a person who has paid thousands of pounds in tax gets the same who has never paid anything into the pot? surely if you pay more in you should be entitled to more when the time you need help the most?

This kind of thing annoys me. You are basically being penalised for doing the right thing. You study hard to get a well paid job, get married, have kids, buy a house and then spend years struggling to get by. While the work shy scrounging brigade get enough handouts to buy fags, booze, Sky TV and holidays abroad evey year. Really rips my knitting.
