AMD FX-9590 Black Edition

Hmmm I never did look into the amd CPU when I got my intel i7 4770k, haha I paid way too much, but the cpu your looking at seems pretty powerful, wish I did some research

Just thought I'd drop this in here in case its relevant, you mention that you play games etc, if you are going to be playing anything like Arma 2, Arma 3, and any of the DayZ MODS or DayZ Standalone you will get much better performance with an i7 over any of the AMD CPU's for those few games, might not be worth it but thought I'd mention this anyway.

I have an 8350 and I've clocked it up to 4.7Ghz on air but the temperatures are way to high for constant use, just waiting for my Corsair H80i to arrive before I go back up to that or possibly even higher.

AMD does offer a very good bang for buck and the chances are whether you have an 8320 or 8350 it will clock pretty well but for single core processes per cycle the AMD wont match an i7, which in some areas is visible and noticeable but they are very few and far between.

Hi Stu, what you have said is accurate however there are two things to impress here:

  1. You are now waiting for a better cooling solution, did you not check this thread or others on here before?
  2. We have said earlier that the i7 is a given in performance over the FX range as per my snip below. If you are on a budget the i7 soaks up a ton of it.

The i7 is the only option worth considering over this, but you have to have the extra £200 to throw at it.

The general advice would be where you save money on getting an 8320 (instead of the 8350, 9590) you can pump it on a better GPU.

Well its all up and running but I now have an issue I didnt have before!!

My GPU is being throttled.... low fps. If never happened on the old board.
Its an AMD Sappire R9 280X Toxic.

Ive been reading on here it seems to be a common problem! Ill try the second bios on the card later when im home from work....
No serious overclocking as yet, either cpu or gpu, bios mainly at stock, latest bios for board. Asus Crosshair Formula-Z.

You would do well to ask about that in the GPU forum :)
