Each to their own, but you'll have to accept that most PDA-phones (sorry I hate using the buzzword "smartphone") have crossed the boundary of cameras, MP3 players, handheld consoles as well as being the aforementioned PDA.

If they've crossed the boundries of being a PDA (and a phone) then smartphone is a better description than PDA-Phone. Surely.

Agreed. If I wanted a phablet, I'd buy one.

Is it too much to ask to have the latest camera, processor etc in a good looking device at a reasonable size e.g. 4.7" screen (and NO, I don't want an IPhone!)

Moto X and Z1 compact are both around the same size and offer some great hardware.

Fair point that the phone spends most of its time in your pocket or in a faux leather flip case !
Though their is the snob factor it that people do want their phone to look better than their mates phone !

I don't know why people worry so much, I bought a Iphone 5S, beautiful design but so easy to mark it lives in a couple of quid silicon case.

It's boring boring boring. Samsung do not care about using design as a selling point on their products - and why blame them when all they need to do to sell GS5s is spend millions on advertising.

Wasn't impressed whatsoever so decided to root my Note 2 instead and pop OmniRom on there. My GOD what a difference!! So quick now in comparison to the bloated Samsung crap, I'm amazed

This will last me a wee while longer now and allow me to wait until something truly tasty comes out (although I think I'm hooked to the phablet form-factor now!)

The mobile was made to make phone calls,thats its sole purpose,the rest is a bonus.

This isn't the case any longer, phones are pocket computers that do a whole host of things.

People like things that look and feel nice, it applies to pretty much everything. Phones are no different.
