Can anyone recommend a decent electrolyte powder that isn't stupidly high in carbs or chemicals. Some carbs are fine, but a lot seem to be 60grams per drink, then only contain one or two electrolytes, rather than the full range.

I like High5 zero tablets as well.

Nuun tablets are similar also. I tried them a couple of years ago and thought they were disgusting but i think they have changed the flavours since then.

Buy a bag of electrolyte powder from somewhere like myprotein. Put a scoop in some squash. I've got a bag and it's lasting forever.

That's the sort of thing I want, would rather not have tons of sweeteners like in the high5. Although that is also the brand my mate recommended.

This stuff?

And if so the next question, is how much should I be taking, I get very sweaty, nice white stains all over clothes. 10hrs hiking and get though 4-5litres of water or even more. I'm always craving salt when I get vpbavk and even halfway though it feels like water isn't doing much.

That's the stuff I've got, yeah. It says how much to use in a litre of water or whatever, if that answers your question.

You'd want the high5 to replace all the salts and vitamins that you lose when you sweat.

I've been using their range for a few years for when I'm running and when out on the mountain bike. They're great! Stop me getting headaches !

Electrolyte powder that isn't full of chemicals? Good luck with that... (I really don't know what you actually mean here)

I use high5 zero for drinks bottles when cycling, mainly because it tastes nice.

Bit special then, aren't we. Its pretty obvious what I mean by no chemicals. Its a pretty common dietary term.

'Bit special' - lovely

Here's an ingredients list for the my protein electrolyte powder:

Ingredients:
Sodium Chloride, Potassium Sulphate, Calcium Di Phosphate, Magnesium Oxide.

Does this count as 'no chemicals' or not? What exactly are you trying to avoid in an electrolyte powder?

I think it's pretty obvious he meant "no artificial sweeteners" or the like.

The packaging for High5 (I know you're not using that but it's still potentially a good guide) says to take no more than 4 tablets mixed up per day - normally you'd mix the tablets with 500ml of water each. Personally I mix them up with 700ml as that's the size my bottles are. If you're drinking 5 litres of water I'd probably maybe have 2 litres of those with electrolyte powder in. I'm not an expert but it sounds like a good starting point to me.

He probably means that he wants to avoid 'chemicals' that are not naturally-occurring?
Most of those ingredients are salts anyway.

Dam ,better avoid all food then :(
It's pretty obvious exactly what he means, electrolyte powder that isn't crammed full of artificial sweeteners, flavours and extra stuff like carb powders.
As above a bag of electrolyte powder from one of the bulk suppliers is the way forward and there will be dosage instructions on the site and bag.

studies have shown electrlytes arer just a marketing gimmick. Electrolyte drink has no advantage over a bananna or just a sugary drink.

A bit of an oxymoron about wanting an electrolyte drink with no carbs. When exercising you NEED carbs to replenish your glycogen. Electrolye loss is fad science - you'll have to be sweating litres to lose electrolytes in a debilitating manner.

p.s. electrolytes taste bad so they need sweeteners. You can have carb based sugars or aspartame which is apparently carcinogenic at extremely high doses.

Have you got any links to these studies? Not trying to be an arse, I'm genuinely interested.

They don't need sweeteners you can just MTFU.

Last I read the jury was out. In any case, I find electrolyte drinks help more than just water, so I'm prepared to pay a bit for a bag of powder.

News flash!

I will sweat litres, and it makes a huge difference, without them I'll cramp, but no problem with.
