electrolite powder

Seem to make a difference for me when I'm out cycling. Plus, "aspartame which is apparently carcinogenic at extremely high doses". Pure scare-science. Good luck trying to ingest enough aspartame to come close to a dangerous dose.

Indeed. Golf1.6's post shows both a lack of understanding about what we're talking about and a lack of knowledge on the subject.

Whilst I'm not a huge supporter of supplements, when playing 80mins of rugby, getting some electrolytes in me did make a difference. I must admit I stuck to oranges/lemons, water and salt. Or water, and coconut milk and salt.

Did it myself and only ever needed them on "big" physical exertions, or more so in the summer. It is important to get those back into your body - you can do it naturally without supplementation, but it does require expense and thought.

A bit of an oxymoron about wanting an electrolyte drink with no carbs. When exercising you NEED carbs to replenish your glycogen. Electrolye loss is fad science - you'll have to be sweating litres to lose electrolytes in a debilitating manner.

I would rather get said energy from food, and not get into a sugar cycle and crash and burn, this isn't 30mins or an hour or two, is sustained. At, I'm doing 8-10hrs. On the challenge I'm hopping to do it in 24hrs of non stop hell.
And yes I am sweating litters. Last long walk I did, I had 5litres of water, not one pee and was still severely dehydrated for the last hour as I had run out of water.

And last year in summer (same day those soldiers died on the Brecons) was planning to climb two peaks, but only did one as went through my full 4litre water supply on the way down the first. Now have a water filter so can filter water when out if needed. Bit that doesn't solve the salt issues.

If you're going to be refilling as you go along, i'd go for the high5 tablets.

Much easier to take the tube with you and pop a tablet into your bottle each fill than try and package loose powder and measure out the correct amount into each bottle.
Unless you can find an easy way of carrying the power.

Yeah. Refilling as you go would be a massive pain with powder. I guess you could make some dose pouches or something but still...le hassle.

Could just decant a bit of the powder into a small bottle of some kind and take the scoop along with you, but yeah, for the purpose described tablets probably do make more sense.

Measure it out and vacuum seal it into little pouches. Then can just tear open and mix in. Think of it like ketchup sachet.

So the vacuum sealer doesn't just pull all the powder into it when you seal it? That's interesting. I'll have to experiment with my own sealer.

I guess it would keep them sealed and dry.
You'd need to measure out and pack the small amounts for each dose though.

I'm sure there are lots of ways it could be done. Taking a large pack and measuring it out as you go wouldnt be my choice though. Is it likely to be raining or windy? That could cause problems also.

Depends on the packer, if it says it can do liquid you are all dandy.
If not you can try putting the sealer on the edge of the work top and dangle the bag over the edge to form a crease in the bag.

You also don't have to vacuum it and just seal it, without pulling the air out, its salts so isn't going to go off.

The amount of powder you use is tiny, you couldn't pack it separately, or at least it'd be pointless to do it. It's a tiny scoop about 7mm across and 5mm tall. You'd need a small bottle or something, or a little box, and the scoop.

I appreciate your reasons for not wanting to use tablets, however, is getting into a sugar cycle and crashing and burning going to be affected by artificially sweetened products like High5 tabs? Genuine question as I assume the whole point with artificial sweetener is that it provides virtually no kcals, i.e. energy, and so wouldn't cause any spikes.

Sweeteners won't cause that, however I would just rather not have sweeteners.
Given up drinking diet drinks this year and artificial sweeteners now taste odd.

Ordered the myprotine one and will see how I get on.

Tbh I quite want to try some tablets that have no sweetners and no flavourings too - mostly because the flavourings are a bit naff.
