My PSU blew last Monday, so I checked the date of purchase, and found it was in the 3 year warranty period, so logged a ticket on the OCZ site, who promptly redirected me to Firepower Technology based in the US. They've asked me to ship the part to them, at my costs?. I've checked, and even on a 30 day shipping time, its still more than the product.

Got to say, wont be touching an OCZ product ever again, as their response has been *shrug" we sold the PSU business, deal with it.

Great customer service OCZ.

Did Toshiba not take over or was it just the ssd production.

That was just the SSD production.

@OP
This is due to OCZ filing for bankruptcy. The different parts of the business were sold off to different companies. This means the company in USA became responsible for the warranties of OCZ PSUs.

At one time it was even thought that a buyer wouldn't be found which would mean the warranties for PSUs wouldn't even be honoured.

Edit:
The company you originally contacted was probably 'OCZ Storage Solutions'. They have nothing to do with PSUs. That is the SSD part of the business that is now owned by Toshiba. The 'OCZ' that made PSUs doesn't even exist any more. All that is left in its place is 'ZCO Liquidating Corp' which is selling off the assets.

It is a bad situation for those outside the US that own OCZ PSUs but there isn't much you can do about it sadly.

Within the first year it is the retailers responsibility, you should go to them and only them, don't let them fob you off and read your consumer rights.
Lucky for me I bought it here, then!

As an aside - I'm actually shocked that people choose to shop at OCUK primarily "because they have excellent RMA procedures"... It's very worrying that PC components costing many hundreds of pounds regularly cack themselves SO often that a shop's return policy is given as the main reason for shopping there!!

Yeah seems I was a bit late to the "OCZ crumbles.." news, hey ho, I've written it off and got a SuperFlower.

Shame, as the guy from OCZ who phones me was a genuinely nice guy, feel more sorry for those people than me and my piddly PSU :(

Hmm I wouldn't say for me the RMA process is a primary reason, its just confidence, if a part does go wrong, knowing its all going to be okay, without hassle or hidden shocks when you place the RMA.
